Please show a little sensitivity, at least for the sake of the family.

i saw it happen. i was the chief witness. i was going in the left lane and these 2 cars were flying towards me probably going 75-80 and the kid in my lane swerved his car into the right lane and lost control. he skidded into the opposing lanes and finally hit the telephone pole. his car blew up in fire and seeing that crash, i didnt think anyone could survive that

you guys are all sick. A kid dies and you guys say he deserved it. In the eyes of police drag racing could mean anything so dont talk until you know the story. Also death is never good so at least show some remorse for friends and family or keep your mouths closed

George, I am a friend of the victim. If you could please give a little more detail on what you saw that would help me to understand fully. Thanks in advance

he was going way too fast. he lost control as soon as he got into the right lane to dodge me. he skidded in front of me going into the opposing lane at least 60 and t-boned that telephone pole to the left of the road and the car exploded into flame. i pulled over and dialed 911

george, you are a good person and thank you so much. thank goodness for people like you. i will be sure to pass your message on to his family and friends. we had not heard much about the details of the crash and that is very helpful...and the comment about people going to help him is also extremely comforting. he would have done the same for anyone else.

and yes, there is humanity. when we went to set up a vigil for him tonight, all of the people that lived along the street came out to give condolences and hospitality. they couldn't do enough, and they shared in our tears. there are still a lot of good people in this world.

A tragedy, yes ... but ...

A mistake is when you drop a hotdog on the floor.

Drag racing on regular roads is not, by any means, a mistake.
Lets get real

while danny or daniel was right behind me i felt like the need to move over into the right lane. the moment i moved over, was the moment i watched and listend to everything that had turned into such a blur. being in total shock let alone terrified, my brother - whom i now consider my hero - told me to jump in the back seat. he was one of the two guys that were there from the moment it happened untill help had arrived.

Contini family are in my prayers.

to those not sympathetic, why even waste time sending rude unwanted remarks.

Tuesday Nights @ 66 Raceway in Joliet is Test and Tune Night. You can race any car in the 1/4 mile legally and safely. No need to street race...

It is sad for the loss of life. But, if someone had to die, better one of the street racers than an innocent bystander. As speed racer said earlier in these comments there are places to go if you want to race. There are also driving schools that teach performance driving, on a track. To those of you that have lost a friend, please remember this the next time you are sitting at a light and some idiot is revving his engine to egg you on! It could end for you as well in the next couple of minutes with the wrong decision.

Because, no matter how painful, the message needs to be sent that drag racing on normal streets is an unnecessary risk that endangers EVERYONE around the racing cars, and that it can result in senseless tragedy.

That is why drag racing is illegal.

It makes no sense in the heavily populated Chicago Metro Area.

It is the same class as driving around downed railroad crossing gates, or teens driving drunk at prom time. You know, the stupid acts that kill people in the Chicago metro area ... time after time.

And if the comments you don't like motivate one person to make a better decision (by not dying, getting paralysed or causing another do die or get paralyzed), then the community is a little bit safer.

You can stick your head in the sand if you want, just don't hold others to your standard.

I dont think anyone is sticking their heads in th sand here. I think some of us feel a little respect should be shown. I think everyone posting here knows Street racing is wrong and dangerous but... remember when you were a kid, was there anything at all you did that could have hurt yourself or someone else?? If not you are the amaing 1%.
