new quarter auction raising money a scam

anyone know if the new quarter auction in mt orab at the hotel is a real charity group or fake? the story changes each time and never hear if people are getting the money. seems fake, hear some of running are not good.

i wondered the same thing seems shady

Well i know for a fact that the Vendors at this Quarter Frenzy are doing the right thing, These ladies have donated Food Baskets to a local church for the people on the church list, and are providing clothes and toys to children on the list, Oct was for a local lady with breast cancer that was at the event and received the money that night, Nov was for food baskets to local family's, so if you would like to see the receipts, PLEASE FEEL FREE to come on Jan 11 @ 7:00 and to the BEST WESTERN and they will gladly open the books for you, And if you dont show up, then you have no right to tarnish the good deeds these lady's are doing, Thank you. We all look forward to your visit, and would love your support by bidding so they can keep helping local family's, and feel free to contact Anna's Army and see how much they raised for them in Aug, they are in hillsboro and was at this event to receive the money raised, they have a web site with contact info on there for you to contact them, If you have a problem with someone in the group, go to them, not the whole group, Have a gr8 day we look forward to seeing you Jan 11th @ 7:00

First I wish to Thank Angel for the kind words & support. As for QTRLVR & MOM2....sounds like neither of you have been to the new Quarter Frenzy in Mt Orab so I find it rather rude that you would make such accusations without getting the facts! This event is one of the better run events of many I have been to and so far the recipients of the funds & gifts collected have been very grateful for the vendors hard work!!! I suggest you attend and see for yourself instead of listening to harmful rumors that have not one once of truth in them!! You just never know...someday you may need a group like this to help you or someone dear to you!

@ imaSupporter Your very welcome, I have seen what this group has done and truly believe in what your doing, I just wish that people would use their time and energy helping people instead of saying things that simply are not true, so to all the negative people i say please focus on helping people, lets all pull together and help those in need :O)

I came across this post while browsing , I have never been to one of these "events" Would you tell me and anyone else who would like to know exactly how these auctions work ?

Here is an idea of how this works:

* PADDLES: Each bidding 'paddle' has a numbered written on it the paddle is then used to hold up in the air when you place your bid - this is where the 'auction' part comes into play.

* CHIPS: The chips used (poker chip or bingo ball type) have a number put on them that correspond with each paddle. Once you buy your paddle(s)- the corresponding numbered chip(s) is placed in a container with everyone else's chip. The auctioneer will stir them up and then pull from these chips to match the winning paddle number that is held up!

* AUCTION ITEMS: Vendors & Local Merchants donate business related items for our charities to raise money from and for our guests to win!! Usually around 60 items is a good number to have - 30 items for each half of the game. Each item has a quarter bid associated with it depending on the retail amount of the item.

Examples: 0-$25 = 1 quarter bid,$26-$35 = 2 quarter bid,$36 -$75 = 3 quarter bid,$76+= 4 quarter bid.(Each event organizer determines their own Retail quarter bid amounts and how many actual quarter auction items they have on display to be bid on.)

* AUCTIONEER: This person will help explain how the 'auction' will work for the event. They will also read a description about each item that is up for bidding and will tell the guests how many quarters each item is going for. They will pull a 'chip' from the container and show it to everyone to announce the winner!

* PLAYING: OK - you've registered, gotten your paddle(s)* and your extra raffle and 50/50 tickets. You've secured your seat at a table, ordered your food, spent some time looking at all the auction items up for display - maybe you've gotten a program that helps you to know exactly what each item is and how much the quarter bids will be (This is like the RAFFLE part). You've visited all the vendors - filled out their door prize slips & maybe placed an order or two!! You've gotten your food & joined your friends at the table & now its time to play!!

Ok - The auctioneer is describing the first item & telling you how many quarters it is - you would really like to win it so, you put your quarter(s) into the container - just like everyone else does! You hold your numbered paddle(s) way up high (cuz you really want that item!!), just like everyone else does! Now, the auctioneer stirs the chips & reaches in - pulls out a number and reads it to the crowd -(This is the BINGO part.)

Now if it's your number - you WIN the item and you've only paid from 1 to 4 quarters for it - however, if you didn't win the item it's ok - you've just 'donated' from 1 to 4 quarters to the charity ~ The auctioneer will continue to pull chips and read the numbers until a winner is called!

NOTE: ALL the quarters collected from your bid & everyone else's bids for that item - will be collected for the charity - remember you were going to donate some money to your cause anyway - so it's a Win/Win situation!!

Proceeds go to the organization chosen the month before.

January 11th event is Autism. Most people don't know their is a support group just for autism in mt orab! You should come it is a great time, for a great cause!

I wil be there again. We came in nov.and dec.your items where very nice. I won 3 items in nov and 2 in dec.and i won a free christmas gift too. Everyone was so helpful when i came the first time,i had never been to one before. I was a guest in the hotel and happened on it. The food both times was very good. So i will be there again, im hooked

Coming again, I am glad you had fun! We love helping those in need! It makes it more fun to have a group like ours. It is fun, when you not only win items, but having nice people. I couldn't ask for a better group. I will look forward to seeing you there :)

Had a gr8 time last nite at the event, you guys raised over $ 300.00 for Autism and they were there to accept the money, so yes the money DOES go to whom they are raising it for, Very Honest group, I will be back in Feb, Just wish there was more room, I think that because of the gr8 job your group is doing, your packing the place and may need to think about a bigger location, just a thought, gr8 job ladies

Comin again, I am glad you had a great time. As you seen we are a great group and honest as well. I am looking into a bigger place but I am having no luck. I am determined to get a bigger place, because I don't want to have to turn those away. If you have any thoughts on a bigger space feel free to let me know and I will check into it.

My mom is one of the vendors, and it is a legit auction. The next one is this Friday, 5/10.
