FirePits law?

I was wondering if there's any laws in Mt. Laurel about using a fire pit in your backyard? I'm talking about the ones they sell at Home Depot and Lowes. Are there any firemen or police out there that can shed some light on this?

Those fire pits you buy at home depot (the ones that look like small wood stoves) are legal. It falls along the lines of having an outdoor fireplace. Im sure Mount Laurel has the same ordinances as my town does, but if you want to be sure, call Mount Laurel Fire Department. They're usually pretty cool about answering residents' questions.

I checked with my buddy in MLFD who I work with. Mount Laurel doens't allow open fire pits unless they are used for cooking. However, you can get away with having it because it produces low smoke and you could say you are using it to cook.

Thanks for checking. I was going to stop by the MLFD on Elbo Ln. after work and check with them. Truthfully, I was intending to use it to cook; me and my kids wanted to roast marshmallows and hot dogs. I was looking at the ones at home depot that look like a low table with a round hole in the middle,(the pit), and it also has a metal mesh dome top. I wonder if the metal mesh dome top doesn't make it qualify to be an "open fire pit"? I don't mean to nit pick. I may stop by and ask anyway. Mt. Laurel always seams to have a law or permit required about everything! I know it's in the sake of safty, but it's getting harder to enjoy some of the simplest things.

No matter what state you're in, call your LOCAL fire marshall's office....Get the name of the person you're talking to, and a local ordinance number (if there is one)....When one of your neighbors calls 911 to report your yard is on fire, you can immediately defend yourself with the contact name and ordinance number.....Don't bother going by your local fire house, as many firefighters don't know what the law is....They often only know how to extinquish them....Enforcement is what the fire inspector/marshall is for.

When the fire inspector cites you, tell them Jeanette from Georgia says fire pits are "plenty legal".

Illegal to smoke in a car with minor children.
Illegal to have sex after 6pm.

Actually a fire pit is legal in Mount Laurel as long as you get a permit and construct it in accordance with the NJ fire code and local rules. Rules include the size, how it is surrounded, and how far it must be from a structure.
You will then have a document to show the responding fire company should your neighbor call. As long as you don't drop the paper in the fire.

I live in Cherry Hill and have a neighbor who has a fire pit and burns and parties until 4 in the morning plus they are LOUD. My family and I don't get any sleep because of this. But in NJ for many years it is illegal to burn unless it is for cooking according to the NJ Statue Law since 1954. Burning is considered air pollution. Wood that has been setting around for years lets off a toxin (hence the eyes burning).

Well I didn't agree with them on that I agreed that I wanted to know who had won get your facts straight before you run your stink hole. As for joining your department, I was told its no different that Petros, just a click where you have to be a prick to join. As for your information I dont bash the PVFD I post the truth as I see it and if you or anyone else cant handle that you can kiss my ass :) I have no desire to join either PVFD or your dept. as for your threats of getting attention..bring it on baby bring it on.
