How many of you MH tax payers are angry about this new recycling tax of $3 per month. Used to be recycling was voluntary and you paid $3 to do so, now everybody has to do it.
And guess what, now that we are having to pay to recycle the city now charges you to haul away items such as furniture, white goods, etc. when it used to be included in your utility bill.
The wasteful spending of the citizens center, the whitewater park, the upkeep of the streetscape(paying RDS landscaping to tend to the plant beds, cut the grass at the citizens center, etc), the ABC land deal, etc. is an OUTRAGE! It is pretty pathetic when the people that put us in this predicament Hope, Harris, and Hough, are running again. People of MH please vote against the 3 H's.

What is an outrage is that people won't recycle voluntarily. What is an outrage are the things that people throw in the trash that fill up the land fills.

How long do these items take to decompose?

cigarette butt -- 2 to 5 years
leather boot -- 40 to 50 years
rubber sole (of the boot)-- 50 to 80 years
tin can (soup or vegetable can)-- 80 to 100 years
aluminum can (soda pop can)-- 200 to 500 years
plastic 6-pack rings -- 450 years
plastic jug -- 1 million years
Styrofoam cup -- forever
glass bottle -- forever

I'll pay the $3.00 and you can have the next landfill in your backyard once you fill up the one we are using now.

I don't agree with much the city has done...I don't like Whitewater, don't like the Citizens Center or the ABC deal. But recycling, it's just the right thing to do and MH was one of the last cities in the region who didn't do it. Shameful that it just now is coming around.

Yes, throw the bums out!

Do not put in Hope or Hough. Yes, Harris is not a good choice as well, but what are you going to do.

Hough is an insurance salesman that has made money off the backs of MH taxpayers.

recycle
if companies were made to produce containers that you paid a deposit on and returned to get credit for how much junk going to the land fills would be eliminated.

I do agree with that. Companies need to reduce packaging and offer incentives.

Yes, I do agree. I still am glad to pay the $3.00 to get these recycling bins out of my garage and stop having to take trips to the recycling center every week.

Mount Holly does things backward, citizens should GET a $ 3.00 discount for recycling. And guess who gets the revenue for us recycling? I won't be recycling and I have started boycotting all businesses in Mount Holly.

Shame on you for not recycling. You're selfish, wasteful and greedy.

As citizens of the world, you should be ashamed at yourselves for more than simply recycling... you kill people for the oil that makes you jug, plate, cup and then use it for a moment; potentially, a water bottle is sipped once & heads to the trash. In a hotel, at banquets, think of all the waste at events you attend.

Yet you can't take the simple moment in your private life to feel good about the world, plants, trees, flowers to recycle at your house.

You would pay more than $3 to make your booty larger at a restaurant.

You know, for each glass of water consumed at a restaurant, size additional glasses are used for things like cleaning in the same restaurant. Consider that while you pay for your water, and conserve that too.

While you consider how we waste our natural resources, please consider how this town has encouraged developement in the name of building an economic base. Think of all of the trees that were clearcut for these starter home subdivisions. Why this town even used satellite annexation to grab the almighty tax dollar? We have yet to see the economics of sending our fire, police, and garbage services up to Stone Water.

Let's think about conserving our money as well as our natural resources.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Libra

Don't try to do too much at once today or you'll disappear up you know what! You're all fingers and thumbs, accident-prone and things start breaking. It won't help if you're trying to concentrate at work and a certain chatterbox doesn't know when to shut up. Ask them to be quiet but try not to sound shrewish.
