Mt Holly had better wake up or they're in for a huge surprise in the next five years.

I am NOT sure but I just bet every time she opens her mouth it will start and end with Money.

We need money. We need to issue debt. It takes a nickel to make a dime.

We have to grow or die. We have to make Mt Holly attractive or people will leave. We have to have a green theme and that costs money.

It will always be the People's Money is needed UPFRONT for all the fairy land tales to happen.

Sound familiar?

They will suck this town dry then leave it to the taxpayers to clean it up.

Have you met her? I have. She didn't strike me as a money-hungry kind of person. She struck me more as someone who is more into organizing stake holders and pulling things together.

It may be nothing more than a first impression...and you know they can be wrong. But I HAVE met her.

You obviously do not know much about the Mount Holly Community Development Foundation....It was created by citizens of Mount Holly who wish to see the city and its citizens prosper.

Their website is mounthollyfoundation.org .

This grass-roots organization has already accomplished many things with volunteers. It was time for an Executive Director to come on board to help the organization to continue its vision.

Check the website and see what can be accomplished if you really want to make a difference.

Like what?

You make assertions... then back them up.

Like what have they done for Mt Holly.

Cause if you ask me. Ain't nobody DONE anything for Mt Holly lately. People been doing for themselves.

Sold that town out along with the schools, thats why you got partner up with Charlotte for sewer and water.

Like I said. What ya gonna do?

Spell it out because what YOU do, is of concern to your neighbors to the south who gotta put up with the spillover. AS ALWAYS.

The greed of both affects us all.

The Train?

Both towns are effected.

The Politicians in charge?

We share.

The GREAT ideas for "green" development?

We both gotta smell.

Green Development... Military Intelligence... Tough Love, oxymorons?

I think so.

What you are upset about has nothing to do with the Mount Holly Community Development Foundation.

The foundation has given grants to downtown businesses for both facade and awnings for the past two years.

The Mount Holly Farmers Market was originally funded and created by the foundation.

The foundation is partnering with the city to build greenways along the Catawba River.

The Economic Dev. Committee is working with several communities along the Catawba River to form a River District. They also have hosted a successful monthly business breakfast for the last two years.

The Foundation has created an Art Committee that has written a Public Art Plan, has had several photo contests and an Art Gallery show during the month of December.

These are just a few accomplishments but several initiatives have been started and will take time to be fully realized.

Planning and implementation takes time and most folks are impatience and expect overnight results. Good things are coming.

As for the sewer issue and the city's poor decision in regards to allowing too much housing growth is the results of poor planning by elected officials (some of which have been voted out and prior Mayors)

The foundation is not responsible for the issues you seem to be upset about.

Exactly is the Sherriff's fine point.

How does thou kill something in order to save it.

It is nothing more than a marketing PLAN for development albeit a "green" development lens.

In other words, it is the same creature with a different mask.

Your southern neighbors aren't buying and so should thine.

Our Riverfront Park is a park for the sale of A river chase estate.

MtHollyGal,
I am assuming the Mount Holly Community Foundation is a not for profit organization. Can you tell me if the Foundation has ever shared its financial reports with the public? Can I find it on their website? If not, where can I find this information?

From what you say it is a good organization, but before I give any money to an organization, I always do a thorough check on whether or not they are spending money given to it in a proper manner.
Thank you.

It is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that has nothing to hide. All the monies are used in Mount Holly.

You can go to their office on Main Street and they will be glad to show you the minutes from their last board meeting which should include a treasurer's report. The Executive Director should be able to discuss this with you.

If it has nothing to hide then why has it never published its financial information in the MH News for all to see? Many non-profit organizations do so. Nothing like transparency.

Seems they want greenways, a new river district, things that will cost all MH taxpayers money, but yet they have never shown how they spend their money or where it comes from.

Yes, they are paying for our greenways, but they want the MH taxpayer to maintain it. Why can't they do it all?

Folks the blinders are coming off, this will cost our citizens money. It will create a community that folks will pay the tax dollars to live in verse slum lords and outcast from other towns to have run down, crime ridden neighborhoods where absent owners care nothing about the town. it does cost money to provide infrastructure and a lifstyle that decent human beings seek in their HOME. That director is one person who ran the show for one year, my advice is for you to get involved, join the membership and board and make your mark. If you have one to make.

What I want to know is why does the city of Mount Holly think of itself as a river town? The river has never been used by commerce, by businesses and our main street is far enough away that makes calling us a "river district" hilarious. Why does people all of a sudden think the river is so nice? To me, sadly it's been nothing but a dumping ground for Sandoz. I wouldn't put my foot in that river.
