The Mount Holly City Government not only gave away tax revenue (revenue that it was collecting from A&E before it purchased the damn thing)it put the MH tax payer on the hook for keeping up an inefficient government building for years and years to come.

What Mayor and what Council is responsible for this tragic waste of money?

Where is the retail business that was promised to offset the huge operating cost of this monstrosity?

And why is RDS Landscaping cutting the grass at the Citizen Center and tending to its trees?

Does no one care about saving taxpayer money in this town?
I will tell you

Our town is so hard to deal with for new businesses that they cannot find tenents for the place.

Frank McLean was the only council person to vote against buying that building. He said that the town would be buying a pig in a poke.

In the beginning it was to cost a total of 1.2 million dollars including purchase and upfitting. That has ballooned to a total of an estimated 12 million if the plans were to be completed. As yet, it is around an estimated 10 million when the loans are paid. So, this council has saved us 2 million dollars.

I will say that if they were to follow thru with the public announced plans the city would have a facility to be proud of for about the next 100 years. But insanity prevails and they do not follow thru. Properties that were to be sold to pay the loan down are no longer viable because of the economy and devaluation of property, and the insane asking prices to inquiries to cut cost that would pay it down.

That 1 million to mecklenburg county would have gone a long way also.

The streetscape, although not done correctly, poor lighting, wrong type of trees, too few parking spaces, granite curbing?, was ok.

The Citizens Center, what a HUGE WASTE of our money. Where are the retail shops that were to offset the operating costs?

When Hough and the others voted to buy this pig in a poke, A&E was paying taxes on a $600,000 building, now we taxpayers get no property taxes on the property.

And why are we even considering putting Hough back in as mayor?

Hough would have been beaten alot worse than Jim Hope did in the past mayorial contest against Whitt had he not ran for cover under his family obligations.

What about the family obligations now, he still has kids, still has a wife. Guess he needs to sell more insurance to the city.

In the early 2000s MH had a chance to become a very nice town, like Belmont. However, the starter home developers, carpetbaggers came a callin to our councils and you see what you got.

The design of the streetscape is wrong. The curbing is too high, even after they dropped them once before. Sooner or later these maple trees' roots will start tearing up these brick sidewalks. There is no parking to speak of, what were they thinking??????????
