I am considering a private school for my child next year. It will be his first year of high school. I was wondering if anyone has an opinion about Gaston Christian.

1 An absolutely perfect school to train your child to hate, to exclude, to feel entitled and embrace bigotry. If you like that sort of thing you will like the school and other parents. |

Is this your personal (first hand) experience or like curious asks, your opinion? |

I am not considering a private school because I feel like my child is entitled and we are definitely not bigots. What I do want for my child is a good education. It would be great if he could go to a school where he could actually bring a book home to study; that is something he can't do now because there aren't enough to go around. I will NEVER feel bad about wanting something more for my child.

1 Do what is best for the child even though others can not or will not. |

When did you graduate ?
If those are the lessons they teach, sounds like you learned well.

mine was not commentary on the children, it was on the atmosphere and general observation of attitudes. I can fully appreciate the need for some to seek the security of a better education for their children. Sometimes I just observe the choices of schools and have noticed how birds of a feather, flock together....that's all. Nothing what so ever about private v public or anything against the children. I just do not like programming children to be excluders of others, that is my obersevation of the school in question. And by the way, it was an opinion the stream author was seeking.....if I did not agree with the choice, was I to refrain from offering an opinion & risk being attacked. I think my point was proven wasn't it? "We believe in the right to decent" as long as there isn't any....thanks all for proving my original point. |

They train children to hate and embrace bigotry? You got all that from atmosphere and observation of attitudes? Who's attitudes?---attitudes exhibited by kids or parents?

So when did Lil Smiling get kicked out? |

What are the science classes like at the school, academic or religeous? As in creationism or evolution? What are the percentages of religeous or ethnic backgrounds represented at the school? Are there Muslims, Jewish or Hindu children? If so, are they tought the Christain slant on science or secular?
To answer: My children have not attended private schools. They were in advanced programs within the public system due to interaction we have had with them and the care we take to insure their education. One is now working on his doctorate and law degree simultaneously ( in his mid 20's). The other just finished his BS in accounting awaiting his CPA exam. Both were products of Gaston County schools and a supportive (not repressive) home environment. My opinion of the other school of which the thread is based is found from my responsibility to interview highschool children for higher levels of education for fit, placement and financial assistance. There is truly a defined "attitude" and expressed "atmosphere" of learning and life lessions taught on certain campuses. I expressed mine of the school in question. To the author of the thread, consider Gaston Day if staying in county otherwise look elsewhere. If you do not mind a curiculum denying scientific evidence or exclusivity training, stay with this one. Either way, good luck and God Bless... |

My child has been there 4 year now. I only wish I would have started her there earlier. The school is outstanding and I am so glad they are in a Christian environment. Please go and tour the school. You will know immediately if it's right for you. I have only good things to say about it. The work load is tough, but then again so is learning. In public school, she never had homework and few test. They just teach the "test". At GCS they don't have to take the test and they actually end up learning. It's also college prep which I like. Please, please, please, go over and look at the school. You owe it to yourself. Also, please ignore the stupid kids and psycho's who posted here. That's a bunch of bull! Good luck with your decision! |

I love it when people validate the point.....makes easy work for the rest of us. Keep up the good work. |

THE place to get the good drugs. Not sure if its changed. Maybe those with the hook ups have left. Maybe gotten worse-lol. But That's the school to go to if you want to get your hands on some prime stuff or jsut quick and easy pills.

I was surprized to see the blog thread. The education portion of the school is very good. It is true that my child was really taught but not to testing. I did take her out after two years. Some of the things that were said earlier were true for us. I had a problem with creation instead of evolution also. My fear was that in college she would not have the information back ground needed. As I questioned the staff on other sciences it was very clear that it was slanted. Now that she is a senior and has a part time job with kids her age, she tells me about how the kids from GCS are viewed by peers. At first I thought it jealousy then I listened, it was something different. I had the same thing happen with other parents. When I spoke of my ideas I was suddenly outcast from the loop. With GCS being such a good place for learning my wishes is that it had not turned out quite that way. Our daughter is much better prepared now all around, we just had to take a more active role and not let others take the full responsibility for her education. I hope this helps someone else who had experienced the same.

Your very misguided if you think GCS doesn't teach to a test any less than the public schools do.
They give a standardized test as well and their results are proudly posted in their annual report on their website. If they weren't getting good test results their "customers" would leave so they are sure to teach to that test so they can get the results they need in order to stay in business. The only difference is that they don't get their test results covered in the media like the public schools do. |

Do you live in Stepford? |

Too bad our schools score so poorly--not many choices in Gaston for education.

I actually have two children attending Gaston Christian and know many neighbors and friends who send their children as well.
Please take the time to read the information on the school website. You'll find it answers most of your questions. We've found the school to be very loving and committed to the academic and personal development of our children. The annual report will show you how the graduating seniors perform compared to local public/private schools as well as nationally. If you don't want your children to love the LORD-don't send them. My kids love school and the LORD. And are taught to LOVE others even if they're treated and judge unfairly. Sincerely, TLC
