Has anyone heard about this? It was on the news last night. The man who lives across the street from this no-kill animal shelter wants to shut it down because he thinks it's too noisy. I personally took a ride out there just to see how bad it could be and let me tell you, this guy is just raising stink for the heck of it and it's the animals and the people who have worked so hard to make this organization effective that will suffer. This guy lives off the road a bit and has multiple dogs of his own. I mean, do your own dogs not bark or something? Those dogs look like wolf hybrids to me and I'm pretty sure they could get in a nice singing match. But, the point is - this shelter is located out in the middle of nowhere, with plenty of property, a wood privacy fence and when I was driving by I didn't hear a single dog bark.
I have several dogs of my own. My dogs are quiet until somebody walks that fence line. It's their duty - to protect. I am sure when people go out there to visit or to feed - yes, the dogs may bark. But, so what? It stops. It may last 30 min or so? Is that really worth shutting down a humane organization? I just cannot imagine. There is a Planning Commission Meeting over this exact issue Tuesday, March 18 @ 6:00 pm at the Somerville Courthouse. Please - be there to support this shelter. It will only take a little of your time but could make the difference for the rest of the time of those with no voice. Thank You! |

I saw this clip on the news and could not BELIEVE what this man is doing!! It seems to me like a one man's crusade who decided to file a complaint after 10 YEARS!!!
Obiviously the owner has taken measures by putting up a fence, purchasing more bark collars, and she has a great point - why did he not say anything to FCAR?? Seems like a cowards way to get out of something. I wish the best of luck to the shelter!!!! |

The people at FCAR do a remarkable job with these animals, they give them love, care, medical attention, they work with their problems - anything to help them have a better life & hopefully make them more desireable for a family to adopt. Many of these animals have been rescued from neglected or abusive situations, where the people who owned them were too ignorant or lazy to take care of them, or so greedy they just wanted to make money off of them & never spend any time or money taking care of them. FCAR tries to educate the public on what it takes to own a pet. They have adoption days every Saturday at various pet stores & carefully match these pets up with their new families. They take every precaution in the world to see that these animals are cared for & don't end up back on the streets starving & having babies.
One man should not be able to do away with something that so many people work so hard on, day in & day out. They make a huge difference in so many lives - not only animal lives, but human lives as well. I think FCAR has gone to great lengths to be respectful of their neighbors by providing the no-bark collars & fencing their area in. The shelter is also built back off the road in a very rural location, that the county gave them permission to build on to start with. How much more isolated does he think they can get? If this man had such a problem with this he should have complained directly to the shelter years ago. Why now? |

That is just crazy. As with so many things, the "squeaky wheel" gets the grease. If he, one man, gets this place shut down, it will affect so many others, who have no place to take animals. In the area, these places are very limited already. Try taking an animal to Collierville's facilities without a Collierville driver's license and let me know how that works out...been there, done that. Not a lot of options. And with an area like Fayette County, with most of the population being rural and not urban, there are not many towns with shelters...but there are plenty of animals that need a place to go. One less shelter would make a bad situation even worse
