I'd like to see Macy's and Target in an regional open-air mall with a food court, Tilt arcade, Hot Topic, Foot Locker, F.Y.E., and No Fear. And I hope for all of that at the Dalidio Ranch property. Lowe's is going to be leaving that project. Home improvement sales are down in San Luis Obispo, and Dalidio has ran out of discount big-box stores to go in his current big-box center project.

It does not matter what the people want. Its only if you have the "right" connections.

Just look at what the judge did to the voters with Dalido Ranch, votes don't matter.

So if Dalidio has no choice but to build a Target and Macy's regional mall. Then it won't matter to everyone else. Am I right or wrong?

None... we have plenty.

I'll tell you what I don't want... any more pharmacy's. If I see one more Long's I just may scream. Where I do my grocery shopping (which has a great pharmacy in it and is the only one I use) there is a pharmacy to the right of it, and directly across the street. Stupid.

No more Walmarts, Targets, Kmarts, we have plenty.

No more fast food places... again, plenty!

If there has to be a "new" shop, then let it be something new and different for the county. Keep SLO different, I swear we are turning more and more in to a suburb of LA/SF and less of our own little special place. It sucks.

None. Enough is enough!

Local small business revenues are diluted enough already.

We already have big-name discount stores (WalMart, Target)...and we already have big-name hardware stores (Home Depot, Lowes)...and the Gap, and Apple...etc, etc, etc. Bringing low wage jobs while killing local business growth.

Maybe if Dalidio was willing to fill his "complex" with LOCAL businesses...not just another big chain/low wage company...too bad his greed is bigger than his concern for our community's health and well being.

promote LOCAL SLO County business.

We only have one Target in the county, in Paso Robles....40 minutes away from SLO at the least. And there building one Lowe's in the county, in Paso Robles...we have no Macy's, or mall stores here yet...

A mall often can include many local stores, just look at Paseo Nuevo and La Cumbre Plaza in Santa Barbara. I gurantee you that a big-box center with Target and Lowe's won't have any of that.

Dalidio needs to annex his land into the city, pay for half of the 101 interchange, and then then just build a regional open-air mall at 450,000sq. ft. No hosuing, business parks, etc... Cuz if he tries to get passed in the county, he will end up with just a Target shopping center, and moneywise he would be better offer selling at that point.

Madonna did not rent to LOCAL businesses. Copelands did not rent LOCAL businesses. Don't give me the LOCAL crap!!! If anyone has distroyed the small town feel of this city its the Madonnas and Copelands. Mom and pops bit the dust when they brought in Old Navy, Gap, Borders, Costco, PetSmart, Pottery Barn, etc... How would Dalidios Macy's or Target hurt now. What is the vendetta against Dalidio??? Let the man build on his property.

sloRED, I couldn't disagree with you less. Copelands destroyed the downtown local businesses that they helped build, and there's a good reason for what they did. Local businesses don't bring in enough tax revenue for a high tourist city like SLO. And the Madonna's stepped in and helped the city when they were down in tax revenue. If it wasn't the Madonnas building, then it would be some one out of this area doing the building and no one would want that. So be glad for all the smart-planning put into San Luis Obispo. SLO is one of the slowest growing cities in California, and it's also one of the best even though there are less local businesses.

Why should Dalidio give half his land to the City? And what do you think the "City" would do with the land if they had it? Maybe the same thing Dalidio wants to do??

I find it very strange that the Madonna's can develop their property all around the disputed "land" that Dalidio owns.
Rather large buildings popped up last year without any mention in local media rearding what was even going in. And I don't recall the Madonna's having to take part in paying for an interchange to help with all the extra traffic their developement would add to the mix.
Then there is the design and color of the very large buildings. What's that all about? Off-the-wall pastel colors up against our beautiful mountain landscape....ohh, nice...

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind developement, but why is it that Dalidio is the only one in this part of town having to be responsible for aesthetics and all traffic concerns?

Where did this vendetta come from?

Dalidio has 630,000sq. ft. of land. He wants to develop almost of all it. It's the largest project to come into the city and county. Madonna's have been in the area longer, and have developed many shopping centers. So people favor Madonna more. Let's not forget Alex Madonna threatened to build a big pig farm over Costco. But of course no one can say no to a Costco. I think when Alex Madonna passed on his projects got even more favoritism.

Dalidio's project happens to be where the most traffic in the city is at. It's only fair he help pay for traffic created from his project, and the reason he should annex his project into the city is so that the city does not lose tax revenue. I'm not saying he should forfit all his land to the city, just that he build what he needs to build. Let's not forget that Madonna Enterprise put money into the widening of the Los Osos Valley Road bridge.

The main point is, if something you are going to build interfers with your neighbors (SLO city), then you should do you part to be a good neighbor and fix it. I'm sorry that Dalidio's project got so much protest, but it is the largest project to be built in the county and it's not like people really like the guy.

But really, I couldn't care less about if Dalidio annexes it into the city or not. I just think Lowe's has the right to leave his project since home improvement sales are down in the city, and retail discount big-box stores aren't doing great right now. A mall would be great for our market. Macy's and Target, lower-income mall clothes stores, and an arcade and food court would all be great for SLO and this county. It's brings something new, and can include local businesses.

I met the guy and I liked him right up front. Maybe that's naive of me, but my intuition has been good for me in my life.

Yes, anyone who builds should take part in helping the traffic flow around their developement, but I'd like to see more help from all the others who have built and will be building in the future. The media makes it sound as if it's only Dalidio who needs to pay up, when we already have traffic issues on Los Osos Valley Rd. and Madonna Rd.
The widening of the Los Osos Valley Rd. bridge didn't really seem to offer much in the way of helping the traffic flow. And now I read that there will be more developing by the Madonna's right across from Costco.

Maybe Dalidio should threaten to put a pig farm on his land, then he might be able to get approval to turn his property into something we all could use and enjoy.

I would go for a Macy's and Target and a few other places I can afford. But I also liked the plans for the continuation of the Bob Jones Bike Trail and the butterfly sanctuary, and the open air farmers market etc...

A mall just doesn't do it for me. At least not the indoor enclosed kind of mall. We tried that before and look at what it became....Gottschalks, Bed Bath & Beyond, Staples and World Market. An outdoor mall with some local business and food establishments with off road, bike trail accessibility mixed in would be nice...Hey how about making it a "green mall"? That seems to be the theme these days and a subject that this town seems to be in favor of.

Anyway, I don't care whether Dalidio builds more housing on his land, but I do like all the other ideas...
however I hope it's planned with good aesthetics that keeps the integrity of our town's cultural heritage and landscape.
