France uses either 53 or 57 nuclear plants. Does anyonew think they built and use that many in a relatively small country(geopgraphically) so they can generate MORE EXPENSIVE power and charge the citizens and rate payers more?Thewy built them because they are cleaner and offer less expensive energy. Duh !

The state of Vermont is holding VY's license extention hostage by extorting Entergy into a profit sharing agreement. Entergy already provides the rate payers with energy that is way below market rates. On top of that Vermont wants a cut of the revenues of the plant. That is totally unfair.

Why does not the state also demand a portion of the profits from all other Vermont businesses. I am sure Sams and the other downtown merchants would love to share their profits with the state over an above the corporate income tax they already have to pay.

It is government greed that will be the downfall of the economy. And soon they are coming after the people in the form of cap and trade and taxes on colas and botox treatments, not to mention new taxes on the lucky ones that now have decent health care insurance. This government greed has to stop. The people and the companies in Vermont cannot stand higher taxes or to face legalized extortion anytime a business wants to grow or extend their license to operate.

If Entergy pulls out, all of the ratepayers in Vermont will suffer the consequences of paying market rates for their power. And that is really going to be bad.

It's funny to hear you two Entergy people whining. Why won't you come clean about how much you intend to charge us Vermonters for power after 2010? If it's so unfair of us to ask, I have a suggestion: Close up shop and see how long it takes us to cave in to your will.

This is such a great service our legislators are going the citizens and tax payers of Vermont. They make this a focus so we can be oblivious to the millions of dollars of revenue shortfalls which result in program cuts. The funny thing is most of the people in the state of Vermont could care less about the power plant and I bet many of them would not even know what VY is...I know that several random people that I queried in Woodstock had no clue of what VY was, where it was, and the license extension issue. Seems to me time is better spent by the legislator on how the short fall is going to be closed.

New Waste, you say, "Entergy" like it is a bad thing.
The evidence is clear that Entergy is a wonderful community partner and supported whole heartedly by the people of Vernon, VT.

The evidence is clear that Entergy knows how to buy friends like you, and that Vernon, which is economically dependent on VY, is in no position to question Entergy.

The evidence is also clear that Entergy's decommissioning fund is about $500 short, and it's preparing to cut and run from that responsibility by devolving the plant to a shell company. You Vernonites and we Vermonters are going to be left with a huge hunk of radioactive concrete and steel to dispose of, and it ain't gonna be cheap.

I have no interest in Entergy. How am I being bought? Other than by less expensive electricity?

You have never explained why the magic happens with VY when it has not happened with any other plant yet. Would you care to now?

I patiently await your non-responses.

I think that Entergy should negotiate with the Vermont Public Service Board, let the Vermont legislature vote to extend their license, then tell the legislature that since it is cost-effective to close the power plant, that they are going to do so starting immediately. Lay-offs will begin within 48 hours, at which point power generation will cease. Then the "wonderful" legislators can explain to their voters how they "screwed the pooch" and not only brought higher electric costs but more unemployment.

That is what Entergy should do, but they won't since they are "good corporate neighbors."

You are playing a game - if Entergy changed anything you would cry wolf and say see they are playing another game to trick us. You only know what your sick mind will allow you to know. There is no real basis for your claims. Do ever wounder why it is all your false claims go unaddressed by the goverment?

Mike, your problems are not the fault of Entergy Nuclear Power Vermont Yankee. Instead one has to wonder if your issues stem from your being a mild to moderate sociopath? AKA; it's always someone elses fault and never your own. The first clue is that you believe that only you have the answers. The second, that you believe that your unhappiness / lack of success is everyone elses fault.

That is supposing the your brain does have activity, which your continued diatribes causes one to differ. Complaining about reports being written in "technical-eze" is another reason to doubt that your brain has any activity. A nuclear power plant is a very technical operation, one that I won't want any Tom, Dick or Harry running. If you are that concerned, educate yourself. With the exception of the reactor, power generation is a relatively straight forward concept - used by fossil-fueled plants everywhere. Or maybe you would like a coal-burning power plant in your neighborhood.

In short, either educate yourself, cite references specific to your diatribes or resign yourself to being constantly marginalized by being a "know-nothing ignoramous." With references, you gain credibility; otherwise you merely shout into the wind.

The random sampling of people in Woodstock might be you first problem; were they residents or just people you met on the street. Is it possible that the residents of Woodstock, VT are really that clue-less? If so, maybe the residents of Woodstock should be prohibited from voting in state wide elections, since they are obviously either apathetic or plain ignorant?

Most Vermonters have an opinion about VY, but they also would like more information to provide a rational answer. Most Vermonters are concerned with the price of electricity (Winter is just around the corner) and would like to know how much VY sells power to Vermont utilities for and how much power VY supplies to the state. Most are amazed that VY provides a third or more of the electric power used within the state. Not bad for a plant that seldom operates at full capacity.
