Letters

Full story: Brattleboro Reformer

Friday's paper had an alarming letter sent in by Richard Schmidt of Westmoreland, N.H. He points out that in order to replace the same amount of power produced by Vermont Yankee with solar panels one would need a total of 18 million panels.

Let's take a wild guess and assume that Ms. Twetan works for VY. If she's really all that worried about our electric bills going up then she should be advocating that we break the VY contract right now as the going ISO rate is about 3.5 cents (Vermont is paying 4.5 cents; Her home state of N.H. is paying a whole lot more, so that Vermont can get a break).

It is outrageous to say that Keeping VY operational if vital to prevent economic collapse in Vermont. Will she still say that if and when VY comes forward with an agreement that is double what we're paying now?

We appreciate your concerns (over losing your job) Ms. Twetan, but how about you stay in N.H. and let Vermont deal with it.

Susan has tried to twist facts and has done a horrible job at it. Its funny listening to people talk when they don't even understand how an electrical grid works. First thing she states that only 2 percent of VYs power goes to the New England grid, that is incorrect. 100% of VY's power goes to the New England grid. There is a grid switchyard right on VY property that connects VY directly to the grid. She then states 98% of VYs power goes out of state. Again that is untrue. Approximately 1/2 of VYs power is used in Vermont to supply Vermont with 1/3 of the states power. The other 1/2 is used outside of Vermont by others on the New England Grid. The power used by the NE grid needs to be replced if VY stops producing, because if the grid goes down so doesn't Vermonts power. Vermont is not all by themselves. Think back a few years when a fault in Ohio caused 1/3 of the country to loose power, this shows what happens when a grid becomes unstable. So with that being said WE DO need 18 million panels to replace VY. We could set up panels n the southwest but it will not help us here in the Ne as the distance is too far for transmission. Look at the size of highlines needed now (the new upgrade happening), that is to transmit electricity hundreds of miles. Imagine what they need to look like to go thousands of miles. During transmssion a portion of electricity is lost due to heat generation called I squared R losses. The farther you go and the more you load lines the bigger the losses. This is why there are generating stations all over the country and not in just one area....We can't cost effectively do it. Doesn't matter how you feel about VY, we need more then solar panels and energy effeciency to replace it.

How much plastic, wire feed, aluminum, networking to control and land and the view that you will say ugly while the enivo's will say oh wow beautiful. that will give off enough refection to blind the pope. and that little moon times 18 million could ruin star gazing. The land would be easy to get just take over 10 to 20 farms.

How many award winning CVPS cow power™ farms would it take to replace Vermont Yankee...liquid anaerobic digester...can’t wait until one of these things overflow and burst, then pollute our streams. How many cows would be needed in Vermont to replace VY?

Cow power has two functions:

1) Green or sustainability washing for CVPS
2) Profitability through state and federal tax breaks

Yep, Ms Twetan works for Entergy.

http://www.docstoc.com/docs/9252871/Participa...

Like all Entergy workers, just happens to not mention it.

Any else notice they write a letter every week, and never mention their affiliation.

Check it out. Any and every time there is a pro Entergy, pro Vermont Yankee letter, it is written by an Entergy employee or PR worker.

The Reformer Letter to the Editor is becoming riddled with these types of letters, all just PR copy.
