The Morristown Police Department Thursday afternoon began a coordinated attack on the alleged foot soldiers in what’s become the this area’s most problematic drug front — the illegal trafficking of legal prescription drugs.
Forty-six suspected drug dealers were identified in an 18-month undercover sting code-named Operation Deadly Dose. The alleged pill peddlers were named in sealed indictments returned by a Hamblen County grand jury Monday.
“It appears that most people do not recognize the magnitude of the prescription medication abuse problem,” said Morristown Police Chief Roger Overholt.
“In our jurisdiction, we have had more of our citizens die from drug overdoses in the past three years than from automobile crashes and violent acts combined,” the police chief added.
Heavily armed members of the Special Response Team began rounding up alleged street-level pill dealers shortly after 3 p.m. By 9:10 p.m., 16 suspects had been taken into custody and the suspect search was continuing.
An additional seven suspects were already in custody for unrelated charges, bringing the total caught as of 9:10 p.m. to 23 suspects.
Detective Lt. Chris Blair, who heads of the MPD Narcotics Unit, said he believes investigators have extremely strong cases against the 46 defendants.

All of the transactions, which typically involved paid informants, were audiotaped, and police have videos of some alleged drug deals.

The charges were not limited to only prescription drugs. Dealers were also accused of dealing in cocaine, crack and marijuana.

The names of the defendants who elude arrest today will be placed in a national computer database. If law enforcement officials encounter them anywhere in the country, they will have the opportunity to know in a matter of seconds that the suspects are wanted in Morristown.

As of 9:10 p.m., those that had been apprehended were:

Every time the dragnet sweeps,
To me sad the news does seem;
For we've lost some Topix posters then,
Who for some months won't be seen.

There are a couple of them in Grainger county that I can think of. And they deserve everything that they will have coming to them when they finally get theirs.

Who is brave enough to fight for their family members? don't look at the addicts as a piece of crap, they are humans, they are some mothers children. Fight for your childrens life,help the cops get drugs off our streets.
