Someone I know received a ticket in the mail for failing to come to a complete stop on a right turn at a red light! Beware! The ticket was for 50 bucks.

I got one in the mail the other day where my son did this same thing in Knoxville. Looks like I'll have to put him on the payment plan.

I really hate this camera thing, but if it saves a life I guess it's worth it.

Knoxville has seen an increase in rear end collisions at the intersections with the cameras.

As of today, July 26,2008, There are no red light cameras installed yet in Morristown.
The cams by the mall on the light wires are tdot monitor cams.
Red light cameras will be installed in the lanes facing the rear licenses plate on cars. The Tdot cams face the front.
Has any one else noticed the tweaking of the timing of the traffic signals on E Morris? They are getting ready. Be aware that Federal and State regulations govern how long a safe "yellow" is timed. Anything timed short of this is illegal and dismissable in court.
Studies of intersections where red light cameras are installed show a decrease in T-bone type collisions and an increase in rear end crashes where the jurisdiction shorted the yellow to create offenses. This is a common practice for the companies that have the contract to operate the cameras. They stand to make the most $$$.
Here in Morristown, I had noticed when the council proposed red light cameras, it was introduced as a revenue raising issue, not of public safety. I am skeptical of the article in the Tribune this week
Please publish the real contract percentages between Rediflex and the city.
So as BIG BROTHER is watching little brother, little brother must be vigilant watching BIG BROTHER.

I wonder if some of the law officers will start losing jobs now. The city won't have to pay them to give tickets since the cameras will catch people. I don't agree with the camera thing.

If the traffic ticket doesn't go on your driving record then that just proves that the whole thing is a money racket. Unless an offense goes on someone's driving record (making their insurance go up, etc...) why would it deter anyone from speeding, or running red lights? Just pay the fine and go on.

I don't agree with cameras, either.

ItS our fault because we don't do anything about it. We sit back and let our back woods politicians make all the decisions for our tax dollars and we never see the rewards from it. All of Hamblen Co needs to stand up and make them accountable for where our money goes. I realize that they prob bought the cameras on some kind of federal grant but its gonna end up costing us in the long run. I'm just curious if you compare the fatality rates from accidents in morristown to prescription drug related deaths, which really needs the most attention. How many lives are the red light cameras really saving??????

And yes, I will, like most other residents, slam on my brakes to keep from getting a ticket (since we can hardly pay our utilities, gas, & groceries in this economy), and this will most likely cause an accident.

The drug companies run our country now, maybe the insurance co will be next.

That is what I'd like to know. Everyone is saying, "Well, if a light turns yellow, I am cramming down on my brakes."
I predict rear-end collisions will soon be on the rise. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, when I approach any of the red lights the cameras will be at, there is someone climbing up my tail pipe.

How in the world do you drag the drug companies into a discussion of Red Light Cameras? The truth of the matter is the pharmaceutical industry is an easy target for the politicians to blame for all that is wrong with the healthcare industry in our country.
I agree that Red Light cameras are primarily designed to generate revenue for the city of Morristown, and have little if anything to do with improving driver safety. Please leave your other liberal viewpoints regarding the drug companies out of this discussion.

Seems everyone doesn't share your views. Good thing you aren't the mediator of this forum.

It seems Mr.Crumley and his puppets are finding another way to drain out pockets. Must not be enough money coming in from our ticket writing friends now. All Morristown is nothing but a cash cow for Crumley and his jackasses

I think it is odd that the City of Morristown doesn't have enough money to keep the police department desk open 24 hours, but they have enough money for cameras. Oh yes, I am sure the wonderful Chief and his girlfriend got another GRANT or some kind of deal.

Since money hungry Crumley the city has went way down hill. Cameras are only for money - not a safety issue.

No evidence has been presented that shows these cameras reduce wrecks/fatalities. They are a pure money grab by the ever growing government.

Is the money for the tickets kept in Morristown or is it sent to another town for the use in that town? Seems to me that we as a town are trying to raise the standards for another city besides our own. Taking away money from our merchants and putting in pockets of merchants from other towns.
