If you are a woman, you need to disregard anything you have heard. A woman should always cook, clean, do laundry, and attend to matters of the bedroom.

I think it is condsidered to be the day when the wise men made it to see baby Jesus. It is also 12 days from Christmas, hence the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas." You can search the internet using the word Epiphany and find out more info. Hope this helps!

I always heard the tradition was that Dec. 25 thru Jan. 5 were the 12 days of Christmas and January 6 was when you take you Christmas tree down.

We have never washed clothes on January 6th, it is said that it will cause you to "Wash someone out of the family". My Mother always reminds me that it's Old Christmas and I sure don't take any chances...

I have never heard anything about Jan.6, but I have always been told not to wash clothes or take out trash on New Years day. The superstition is you will be washing someone out of the family. Also your first visitor in the New Year is suppose to be a man. This is suppose to bring you good luck.

Yes, I have been told all my life you dont wash on Christmas day, New Years day or Old Christmas. My mother always called and reminded me and so my grandparents. They all have since past and I still carry on the tradition although I myself wasn't sure what it meant, but I knew it was on the 6th of January..Its good to know there are more people out there that believe in old sayings, cause I believe a lot of them to be true....
