Howmet- just wondering

Morristown, TN

#1 Mar 25, 2010
Just wondering if Howmet is still a good place to work. I have heard that alot of the people they laid off are refusing to go back to work. Why? I know a couple of people that work there and all they will say is things have changed. I had an interview there yesterday, and an interview for another job, so now trying to figure out which one to take. Can't afford to get laid off again as I have drawn out all of my unemployment. The other job is in retail, and it is very unlikely I will get laid off from it. Any comments? Suggestions? Thanks!!

Ever notice that when someone gets on here with an honest question..all they get in return is a smart ass answer? Get on here and ask who the biggest slut is or who is sleeping with who and you get all kinds of responses!! Don't talk to me about handouts...I was on unemployment. Didn't get food stamps or Tenn care or anything else from the government. The only reason I am going back to work is for the insurance. Tired of hubby paying 600 dollars a month ( at his work) for crappy insurance. And yes, I know and am thankful that we do have insurance. So please no crappy comments about how lucky we are to have insurance. This is the only time I have ever posted anything on Topix, and will probably be the last. I have at times replied to some of the topics on here, but always with an honest answer or at least an answer that may help someone. I AM NOT like some of those who sit around on their ass and think they are being cute by posting stupid responses to questions. So thank you for your comment even though it was a unappropriate... have a nice day !!(see I can be nice).

Yes, Howmet is a good place to work the benefits are wonderful. your insurance starts the same day you do plus 2 weeks vacation, i dont know about the laying off part because they do lay off a lot, so i hope this helps some. Good Luck.

Forgot to mention that they are really needing people to work third shift. So I am guessing that if you can work third shift and can pass physical and background check you would probably get a job. Good luck!!

I start at Howmet next week through Manpower. They say it is a go permanent job but, haven't told me how much the starting pay is. We have to train on 1st shift for 3 weeks before we go to 3rd though. I'm just glad to have found a job considering they are so scarce right now. When I find out what the starting pay is through Manpower I will let you know. And if you need a job, yes, Manpower is hiring for Howmet and all positions are 3rd shift. You have to take a drug test, inspection and reading test and eye sight test which Manpower pays for. You also have to have steel toe shoes but, Manpower gives you a voucher to go to Elliot's Boots and get them.
