Since the medicinal benefits of marijuana have been proven in studies and since people in the UK and Canada can get it under the brand name Sativex it is stupid to ban the plant.

I'm curious if the Obama administration is going to sue Arizona to stop implementation of this ballot initiative.

Regulating drugs is the responsibility of the federal government, isn't it?

This is one of the STUPIDEST laws that was ever allowed to pass in Arizona.

Our Federal Government is suing Arizona because we want police officers allowed to arrest and detain people here in the U.S.illegally.This would be to help boarder patrol agents in this illegal drug cartel war zone we have going on our AZ-Mex boarders. As it is against the federal government to be here illegally!
Federal law prohibits possessing or using Marijuana in the U.S. is a Federal crime, will the Government step in and sue AZ for allowing this one, and clearly going against the laws of the highest power in our country?

Only seems fair!

We live in some very corrupt times when wrong is deemed right and right is deemed wrong by so many!

You have a very strange take on things, "patriot".
Ever hear of states rights???

Here's something to chew on regarding marijuana vs. those legal drugs. This is information from the FDA from the period Jan. 1, 1997 to June 30, 2005.
Total deaths from marijuana - 0
Total deaths from 17 FDA approved drugs - 10,008

Clearly the "highest power in our country" as you refer to our federal govt. doesn't have the answers.

@ T.P.Patriot: your argument shows the typical stupidity Tea Party members. At any time, you're against the Feds and you're for the Feds, You yell about state rights, and individual Rights, Then you piss and moan about the Fed not getting involved.

Your statement is exactly contrary to the Tea Party's goal of smaller Fed Government and more State rights.

You're like a Big Jellyfish floating anyway the tide of hostility takes you. You will say anything, no matter how dumb, and then try to wrap it in the American flag. You my friend, are no patriot!

Let's see, on one hand you're pissed the feds are impeding state rights and on the other you're saying the feds better step in....lol.

Right the Feds don't step in when we need them to enforce one of their Federal laws on Boarder security. They even sue us when we vote to enforce boarder laws that they are doing a piss poor job of! However that is how most of you are getting your pot so I am sure you don't like the border security laws!

Then another Federal law that says you may not use or possess Marijuana in the U.S.A is overlooked for now my the Feds! That is messed up!
Whats next? If AZ voters want other illegal drugs, Cocaine, Meth, many will argue they "need it" it helps them, and they use daily! Where does this train-wreck stop? Where is the line drawn?

The Feds still do go bust "Pot Shoppes" in California now and then,I hope they do it plenty times here!

This law was passed,by corrupt voting. In Phoenix thousands who voted on this never had to show any legal ID, so how do we know if they were valid Arizona voters? We don't!... If it was flipped the other way and did not pass because of voters who were not even proven legal valid citizens or living in Arizona, I bet all the Mary Jane lovers would be freaking out!
Probably be a recount!

I enjoy all of you showing your ignorance and tainted views against what I stand for. You want to wrap yourselves in the American flag and light up a fatty! Some sorry people you are have to get high to even live! That is really respectable!

People who agree with legalizing drug laws, and the other far out thinking that goes along with this liberal agenda is taking out country down, fast!

Marijuana and driving affects everyone on the road:

THC affects areas of the brain that control the body’s movements, balance, coordination, memory, and judgment, as well as sensations. Because these effects are multifaceted, more research is required to understand marijuana's impact on the ability of drivers to react to complex and unpredictable situations. However, we do know that:

* A meta-analysis of approximately 60 experimental studies, including laboratory, driving simulator, and on-road experiments, found that behavioral and cognitive skills related to driving performance were impaired in a dose-dependent fashion with increasing THC blood levels.11
* Evidence from both real and simulated driving studies indicates that marijuana can negatively affect a driver's attentiveness, perception of time and speed, and the ability to draw on information obtained from past experiences.
* A study of over 3000 fatally-injured drivers in Australia showed that when marijuana was present in the blood of the driver they were much more likely to be at fault for the accident. And the higher the THC concentration, the more likely they were to be culpable.12
* Research shows that impairment increases significantly when marijuana use is combined with alcohol.13 Studies have found that many drivers who test positive for alcohol also test positive for THC, making it clear that drinking and drugged driving are often linked behaviors.

In recent years, more attention has been given to drugs other than alcohol that have increasingly been recognized as hazards to road traffic safety. Some of this research has been done in other countries or in specific regions within the United States, and the prevalence rates for different drugs used varies accordingly. Overall, marijuana is the most prevalent illegal drug detected in impaired drivers, fatally injured drivers, and motor vehicle crash victims.

Studies conducted in several localities have found that approximately 4 to 14 percent of drivers who sustained injury or died in traffic accidents tested positive for delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredient in marijuana.

In a large study of almost 3,400 fatally injured drivers from three Australian states (Victoria, New South Wales, and Western Australia) between 1990 and 1999, drugs other than alcohol were present in 26.7 percent of the cases. These included cannabis (13.5 percent).
