I was in Weston, went by the hospital and noticed it was opened. My family went in and we really didn't understand what was going on until we saw t-shirts with "lunatic asylum" printed on them for sale along with key chains, and other items. It was really in bad taste considering the hopital had many patients that were from all over WV and probably many family members were instituted there that were forgotten and not talked about at the supper table. It was really upsetting to see such a place used as a "joke" and very disrespectful to the public.

If I lived in Weston I would try to stop this "amusement park" in my community. It was horrific in the fact it set mental illness back generations.

Check your history the hospitals original name was "transatlantic lunatic asylum" so they didn't just use the name in complete bad taste.

Sorry my mistake almost got my history wrong the name was "Trans Allegheny Lunatic asylum". Even tho Lunatic asylum was part of the hospitals name in the beginning. I myself would not care to ware a shirt sporting that name because of peoples piss poor attitude toward mental health patients who struggle everyday to be better people.

I am in awe of the Old Weston State Hospital. What a piece of history right here where we live. I would love to spend days upon days going through it and seeing peoples names written or carved on the walls. I don't believe it is haunted but I think it would be wonderful to put on a flowing white gown and walk the halls at night. I would love to be the ghost of the old hospital.

I was a patient at Weston State Hospital for a year back in 1966-1967 and was housed on the 4th floor of the Medical Center building for some months then transfered to the Vocational Rehabilitation unit behind it. I have very fond memories of my stay at the hospital. I was one of the first patients who was allowed to leave the grounds each day to attend High School and graduated with the Lewis County High School class of 1967. I also was able to take a female patient to the senior prom. There were about 2000 patients at the hospital when I left and I always considered myself one of the lucky ones who had little restriction nor have to face the confinement that almost all the other patients had to edure.

Was your prom held at the hospital? When I went on a tour of the hospital I know they said that one room was used for high school proms & dances.

I have been on every floor and seen everything from the heating (which was very clever I must say) to the top top floor. No wonder they was crazy hot pink, yellow, blue, green walls that slanted downwards make you feel like you was in a room getting smaller. My dad worked there and he made the plans for the sharpe hospital now. I love the Weston Insane Aslyum. awesome place! We lived over on the side street from it and a man escaped from there and hanged himself in the field below our house. Dad said when they buried people in the back the guy moved the head stones to mow and forgot where they went and I dont think they are there now?! Place has to be haunted no doubt. My dad and I got lost in like what I call a secret walkway and freaked out. Something chased me from the top floor to the bottom floor. I have been to the auditourium(cant spell) and that place had something strange about it. Love the place though. They really need to fix it up and make like the side building a casino and make the big building a tour building, historical landmark, and make it where you can travel all of it and even stay the night!

I went to the witch's ball and the stay over on halloween. The ball was a joke, but the hospital was great. I think we incountered a ghost and heard some noises. I loved it and will go back again.

Daily Horoscope for January 5

Taurus

Everything seems to be getting under your skin at the moment, but this is no excuse to lose your temper, and you know it. Better by far to be discreet and plough on steadily, without looking to the left or right. If you keep your feet on the ground and don't get discouraged, there are definitely fair winds that will blow you along. It's just a question of finding the right balance between confidence and commonsense.
