It's common knowledge both internally and with elected officials. It's just a matter of council taking a stand and doing the right thing. Time will tell. |
Council is well aware of internal issues and from what I'm told, are working on it. I believe in giving them a chance. In this day and age you must be very careful when dealing with personnel matters, including what you say. Let's wait and see.

Once again the media was fooled into thinking the city was well prepared for the out of control partying and riot like atmosphere last weekend. Our slick talking officials dodged the media bullet because they quietly accept what they are told as truthful. Actually there was very little planning and if the media used their brain, they would have figured out that control of the street wasn't gained until additional personnel were called in late Saturday evening. If there had been pre-planning, officers would have been posted and the drunken rowdy students wouldn't have taken the streets. It's all smoke and mirrors and I must say, the public is buying it!

I read the posts on here and must agree. Here's my two cents. There is a wrecked/ disabled car that was left on Park Street a couple of months ago. I called the police station and was told to call the parking authority, I did and the car is still there and as far as I know, nobody even bothered to check on it. This is the exact reason our neighborhoods are deteriorating and property values decline yet people in Morgantown pay higher taxes than anyone in Mon County.
Just go a couple of streets over and see the steady decline in our neighborhood as well. I agree that there is a SERIOUS lack of leadership and people seem to have no concerns for the well being of city residents. Maybe that is why contractors are busy building all around the city. |
any place you have section 8 you are going to have decline, section 8 people have a culture full of filth and entitlement. |
From all the posts on here, seems the problem is pretty obvious. And for anyone wondering, the wrecked/disabled car is still there even after 3 months and 3 phone calls. This says so much about our city and it's leaders. Very sad. |

Judged: 2 1 You could go to a neighborhood meeting and complain, or better yet go to http://Morgantown.com and contact your councilmember with a history of the issue you've experienced and include a street address where the car is parked and have that person take it up with city officials. My own experience has been the elected leaders are responsive and will follow through on getting answers and action. |

Judged: 1 1 I couldn't agree more. The only thing I have to say in addition to your comment is about the car. If the vehicle has a current license plate, then the owner has a right to have it there as long as it is not illegally parked. It may be an eysore, but there is nothing that can be done if the owner has everything up to date. If it doesn't have a tag and is truly abandoned, then you have a legitimate complaint. Be persistent. 3 phone calls in 3 months is not persistence. 3 phone calls a week would probably work a lot better. |

You should research the law before you quote it. Although what you say may be true in Charleston. It's against the law in Morgantown and you are wrong. |

Judged: 1 Although I agree in theory with your response and have made similar statements about giving elected officials a fair chance. The bottom line here is about the complete lack of leadership and the steady decline of the city. My opinion is the that there have always been issues within the city but not to the extent we have seen in the last year or so. To me, It's a complete lack of oversight or supervision which has resulted in the lack of delivery of basic services that city residents pay for and have come to expect from the various departments within the city. For those who think this is just a rant, I challenge you to take a good look at our city, drive around some of the residential neighborhoods and then post your thoughts. For the record, I have done more than post on here as I have personally talked with more than one council member and voiced my concerns. |

City Resident is correct, the laws in Morgantown make it clear what's permissible in this regard. For reference, check out: 307.01(f)- http://bit.ly/HUe2Kj 361.07 - http://bit.ly/Jg28IN 361.12 - http://bit.ly/HODu1u Cite these passages when you contact your councilmember. Hell, contact all of council for that matter. Any elected leader worth your vote will be able to find and reference the code to back you up. I'd tell you to call City Hall, but I know what City Resident is talking about from experience. I believe there are elected leaders who really care about issues like this but council needs to hear from the average person on the streets so changing the community for the better becomes a priority for everyone. Otherwise, some may continue to prioritize their past pet projects and protecting the status quo. |

I have a close relative who works for the city. He says that they have been told that "city hall" has ordered cut backs in all areas and that is why things are not getting done in a timely manner. Seeoms to me they would do the basics and cut back in other areas like fat salarys for people to sit in the office all day. |
Do we know if the things mentioned on here are the result of cut backs or poor management or both?
I'm a bit surprised that you would make such a hasty generalization of a group of people. Many people in section 8 housing are there temporarily because they have run into hard times. To say section 8 people have a culture of filth is rather disgusting. There's are plenty of college educated, hard working people who are unable to find well-paying jobs living in this type of housing. Seriously don't be a bigot. |
i am not a bigot, i grew up on the outskirts of baltimore md. everyplace the government dumps these section 8 slugs turns into a hell hole. i saw it time and time again. If yoy want to destroy an apartment building or a neighborhood, just move some section 8 parasites in. and all hell breaks loose. that`s exactly what you would expect. these are leaches and parasites, so expecting normal human behavior from them is only going to lead to disappointment. these people can not compete in life.

If anyone has/had doubts about our city being in a downward spiral. All the proof was in our police chief's press conference about the shooting at Wal-Mart today. He didn't even know where the shooting happened. I hope some of our council members saw it. And by the way, didn't they spend taxpayer funds to hire some media specialist to handle situations like these?

I watched it twice. He was reading from a prepared statement but he certainly didn't look prepared.
