I worked at American Woodmark Plant in Berryville, VA over 32 years. This plant is now closed; even though we were told by a "higher up" corporate person visiting our plant; I quote "I feel the corporation is making a BIG mistake since this plant has always pulled us though tough times in the past. The workers here has such great committment and pride in the work they do and the products (cabinets) they put out. Most of the people I know would have produced shotty workmanship, but, you people are determined to put out great products even though you are closing, and I commend you for that."

Cabinets that are being built now are NOT made very good, I am told by someone who went to another plant upon our closing. She has noticed a lot of cabinets that were sent out on trucks that were defective and poorly made. At this plant quanity, not quality is the name of the game.

AMW never paid the greatest salary but it was a job and the workers were "family". We care and still care about each other. With just $7,000 severance pay for 32 yrs of hard work isn't much. AMW should have waited to see if the economy turned around and applied for a stimulous package from the government. Another complany applied and got the stimulous because they are adding 50 more jobs in March and adding on to their factory. Why couldn't AMW have done the same thing. The building could have been repaired or even rebuilt and I'm sure benefit packages could have been reduced just to keep our jobs.

I'm over 50 years old I am finding it hard to find another job. Just when I thought things were finally going good for my family I lost my job due to plant closing. It's not just me that is hurting but a lot of others as well.

American Woodmark Corporation YOU MADE A BIG MISTAKE and will probably pay when the pubic finds out what kind of products you are putting out!!
