It just goes to show taht they are in fact, more worried about upsetting poor little Galen than they are about protecting the young ladies in the town and doing what is ethically correct. There is no such thing as justice in the town of Moorefield. I love Hardy county but the local politics leave a bit to be desired. You have got to stand up and get involved. Vote in more decent people.

I do not know the alleged victim and I have never met Galen. But here's my opinion on this situation. I have had several people tell me that Galen is notorious for pulling over teen girls for little or no reason to flirt with them. A friend of mine said she told her granddaughter when she got her driver's license if she ever got pulled over by Galen, to keep her doors locked & windows up--& this was BEFORE the alleged incident Galen was charged with. He may have some supporters in all the right places, but he has not had a good reputation for A LONG TIME.
No one can say for a certainty (other than Galen and the alleged victim) whether there was sexual assault on the night in question. But we do know that Galen finally admitted to consensual sex, on duty, in the police cruiser. Someone with a lack of morals of this magnitude should NEVER have been rehired as a police officer in this town or anywhere.
So much name-calling & character assassination has been spewed on this board about the alleged victim. As I said, I don't know her. But apparently Galen didn't care. He either pursued, forced or gave into committing a sex act with the alleged victim. What does that say of his character?
The fact that he was rehired as a Town of Moorefield police enforcement employee disgusts me.

Then comes the fact that the town of Moorefield (leastways the police chief and members of the council)would put their feeling for a "friend" before the safety of the public by not taking this person of the force. The man should have been behind bars a year ago,and it will be a great day when he finally gets what he deserves. As far as the previous poster is concerned: Are you on acid?Watch too many day time soaps?Next thing you will be saying is thats it's an Alien conspiracy to defraud small town police forces so we will be unprepared for the invasion. If you hoping to make people think she is of dubious character, you better think again. She is one of the few good, trustworthy individuals I have met.If your gonna try and discredit someone you should probably pick a better target. Anyone that knows her knows that the things you say are ludicrous. But I guess you have to grasp at straws since your main man Galen is goin down. Have fun with your fantasy world bub. I think both have acted irresponsible.. while I know that no one is perfect. However lets consider the facts here Officer Reel was on DUTY, thats in itself makes him guilty .. If he was acting like a civilian while on DUTY, he was neglecting every one of his assigned duties, wherefore there is no excuse for his act, there is no way he can be justified based on Marys charactor, she was not on Duty being paid by the taxpayers, and because Officer Reel wears a uniform, that does not give him a liberty to take liberties Mr. Reel took the liberty to show disreguard for his assigned duties as an Officer of the Law and disrespect for those he was representing while on duty. So we need to look at this in another light, not only was the act immoral, it was unlawful; Think not, just how many of his duties as an Officer of the Law was he performing , while he was performing one of an Officer off duty, while yet on duty ? Answer is of course not one, he was in violation of not carrying out his assign duties.I rest my case.

Am I seriously reading that he was reinstated? How can we respect or trust our law enforcement when they so things such as what Officer Reel has done? This makes Moorefield look like a huge joke. This pervert needs to be stopped. He' been doing the same thing for years and it's time that someone stops him.

This makes Moorefield look like a huge joke. This pervert needs to be stopped. He' been doing the same thing for years and it's time that someone stops him. I read on here that Mary stated more than once that Officer Reel had unzipped his pant, Well, a man purposely planning to have sex, would NOT wear his uniform trousers , and if he had them on , who is to say that he did not have another pant of pant if he spotted the lady at a location Stopped , knowing where she lived and direction she would be traveling in he would have ample time to change pant before pulling her over what man having half a brain would have sex wearing the uniform trousers. none Another question is this: How many changes of Uniforms does the Officer have, and do they all have snaps, buttons or velcro; BTW, if velcro they will make a noise closly sounding like a zipper Even if the sex had been with consent, Officer Reel was on Duty, therefore he was at fault, he was in violation , purposely neglecting every one of his assign duties, therefore if nothing else can be resolved here, he abandoned his duties, that is grounds for terminating his employeement, and with the charges of willfully and purposely neglecting ALL Police Duties , he should never be employeed again in that field not even as a jail keeper. Mr. Reel owes a public apology to Mary, her family and the people of Hardy County

I want to clear the air I work for moorefield police department. you are not the only ones he lied to. some of us have stuck are necks out for him. if I knew what i knew now I wouldn't have. There are officers in the department that go out here and do there jobs and try to make the department and the town better place work and to live. I hear everyone complain. but no one will go to town meeting and say anything. just because he works with me doesn't mean i like it. Moorefield pd has got a black eye from this, but this not the only department that was doing the same thing, they just haven't had anything done to them yet. you have evidence stolen from a department IE (Drugs),tax momey missing. officer having a search warrant served at his house for pills. but have you seen anything in the paper about this. I don't believe in the good old boy's system. But there is alot of it going on. back to the Moorefield officer you would not believe who was on the jury when he went to court and i didn't know about this. all I ask is not to think all of Moorefield PD officer are like this, we are not!!! I don't support him at all and never will after the lies !!!

Continence I really THINK NOT. So to me this whole thing needs to be well looked at by an outside source other than WV State Police. Not saying they didn't try. This so-called OFFICER, needs to be STOPPED. It really gives good cops a bad name. How does a guy like this even show his face in that town let alone in Uniform. I couldn't have said it any better!!!!

I agree with the last post made by Kevin...we all believed Galen before the trial and when he sat up there under oath and said that it did happen but it was consensual. Kevin, another officer and I lost all respect for him. There are a lot of women I know and some I have just met that say Galen has followed them through town in his cruiser numerous times and some have said that he has made them feel very uncomfortable by his actions when he was around them. The weird thing about it is they all have the same story and some don’t even know each other... as for the victim: i have heard that he was not the first guy she has done this too!! I look at it this way; do people who are addicted to pain meds ever feel pain other than from their addiction? Of course they do they are human too!! Regardless of her past she was a victim of his and she is not alone, the women need to stand up and get in contact with judge cookman and be a voice for those who won't...then maybe some justice will be served... as for the rest of the officers on the department, they didn't make the choice that he did, so don't look down on them they are trying to do their jobs and not every women that comes into sight... they didn't ask for him to come back on the force. I also think that the local newspapers need to get a hold of some public records that will show you that it’s not just the town that has the bad apple out of the bunch... there has been a search warrant on an officers residence for pills and it was never published in the newspaper and nothing was ever done to him because of the good ol' boy system i'm sure. So when it becomes public knowledge, is everyone going to blame the whole department?
