What's the world coming to when you can't even have a friendly wrestling match in the classroom anymore?

When did society make the transition from presumed innocent to presumed guilty, the collective paranoia of society borders on mania.

They couldn't question students because of a field trip to Universal?????
The schools are crying about budget cuts but can use school buses to transport kids to Universal???? Teachers are sooooo overworked, but can go with the students to Universal???? give me a break... |

This isn't 1965 anymore. I had a teacher pull me by ear one time because I wouldn't listen when it was time to go back class after recess. Didn't dare tell my mother because I would have gotten worse.

If there was no malice, these were just boys being boys!!!
Yes, even the teacher, how many of you men with kids have "NOT" done the same thing in the past with your kids, or neighbor's kids???? Redogg and John S are right, our minds are so open, our brains have fallen out!!!!! |

There were no complaints.
The students all witness to the fact that it was all done without malice, it was done for fun. HE WAS A WRESTLING COACH. No one got hurt. No one was forced. They were all participating by being audience or wrestlers. They were all doing it because HE WAS A WRESTLING COACH. The students were playing. Where did the complaint even come from? So, other than not what should be happening in a science class (and why did they offer the wrestling coach a science class one wonders) what was truly wrong here except stupidity? Confused. |
|
Most school use charter busses, and the cost is added into the amount the students pay for the field trip. |

Bad judgement but it looks like they were just horsing around. Typical guy stuff. The jerky video with no sound makes it look like a horror movie or something.

Everyone likes a good Wrestle Mania, but IN SCIENCE CLASS??? How did the wrestling fit into the Sunshine State (academic) Standards? "Anatomy"? "Physiology"?
How about "Orthopaedic Medicine", as in rotated cuffs, knee damage, tendinitis? |
|
|
Also, teachers are required to go on field trips with students to chaperone them and take care of any problems that arise during the field trip. It's quite hectic trying to keep a large group of teenagers out of trouble at a theme park.

No doubt,, the kid looked like he was doing pretty well against the much larger teacher who is in pretty good shape for his age. No harm no foul,,,, and yet how many governmental agencies are wasting money investigating this? Sheer idiocy, stick a fork in us,,,we as a society are done. |
|
Why does a twerpy kid need a cell phone, anyway? Spoiled brats...
|
|
Your answer; when news stopped reporting the news and started sending us daily dosages of "lessons" in political correctness. That apparently started in the late 60's and has gotten worse as each year goes by. And then they wonder why the world is disgusted with us and the media. |

Poor judgement but far far from criminal. Who is complaining? Just horseplay that went too far.

I do agree with this and many like post. There is a very important object lesson in your statement and some will be able to grasp it. The issue I had with the story is that it seems the teacher did not have control of his class and was allowed to be sucked into their level. Is the loss of discipline a problem in schools. You bet. But that loss is felt in many instituions, the family and within the law. What should have been done? The teacher should learn a little more about managing his class. I know the word investigation was thrown in. Investigate what? There was no crime. Poor judgement, yes. Oh, will anything be done to the student who had a cell phone in class which is in most places against school policy. I doubt it. |
|
Well what is the educational value of a trip to a theme park snyway? The kids can go an a Saturday or Sunday. Doesn't belong in the school system. Liability for the schools. Absolute waste of money. |

Seriously? This is what guys do!!!Maybe he showed a lapse in judgment but geez, don't fire the guy over this!

Truth is, Students pay for the admission to the park AND the cost of the bus...no taxpayer funds are used, especially on field trips that are considered rewards, not strictly educational. Additionally, I challenge you to supervise 150 hormone-driven adolescents at a large theme park like Universal. I guarantee you'll end up with a headache that would kill and elephant, and you'll get the best night's sleep of your life. I can tell you that from experience. Finally, WHAT THE HECK WAS THIS GUY THINKING? Any teacher worth his or her salt knows that this type of activity is just flat out inappropriate. You never, ever touch a child in any way that could hurt them, for fun or otherwise. Anyone who doesn't know that doesn't belong in the classroom. |
|
Yes there are some days where there is "down time." That doesn't mean that wrestling is appropriate. Save wrestling for the gym on the mats, not in a classroom. The kids could have hurt themselves on the desks and tables nearby. I don't know what was going on before this but I'd hope in a science class this isn't type event isn't frequent. Sometimes "down time" is the fault of the teacher for not planning enough activities, assignments, or a long enough lecture. |
