Northstar Rail takes first ride today

You want NorStar to run to St. Cloud and no bridges to Wisconsin, make no sense. Why don't people who want to work in the metro just move to the cities instead of expecting a BILLION dollar train to St. Cloud? I commuted to/from St Cloud and the time wasted in a car or on a train is stupid! Oh you can sleep on a train, so we are building a BILLION DOLLAR hotel on rail?

The bike trails that used to be rail lines could be left alone and make them a one way road during rush hour for new evolving lightweight electric/other fuel vehicles, low speed people movers? Electric low speed vehicles are now built in Minnesota!

All these rail solutions are very expensive to the taxpayer and very inflexible. Note when LRT crashes, kills someone, they bring in busses to move the LRT passengers. So we have an expensive rail with bus backup, stupid and very wastefull.

BTW the existing bike trails could be used for recreational bikeing during off rushhour times, like daytime, weekends and evening through the start of morning rush.

Government is fixated on rail which has limited capacity very expensive build costs and very expensive operation costs, and cannot pay for itself!!!

I think government likes rail because of the availability of kickbacks from the vendors providing the rail components. You know there is no better scam than working for the government with NO ACCOUNTABILTY and having a vendor who wants the business, WILLING TO PAY FOR IT!

Well, no, actually you're putting the cart before the horse. Roads create development. That's why land speculators want you to fund the bridge to nowhere, so they can make a killing on your tax dollars, laughing their way to the bank while simple minded types fight the unwinnable battles of(I hesitate in your case to legitimize it with such a word) philosophies in the culture wars. But I'm glad that you mentioned the 60's, because that's when(1968) the St. Croix River was designated as one of the eight original National Wild and Scenic Riverways. If we are going to protect things then take a dump all over them, what's the point?

Sure, it makes a lot of sense. Trains are efficient ways to move people within the state(and perhaps outside it too). I agree; people who work in Minnesota shouldn't move to WI knowing the transportation options then whine about how hard it is to get through Stillwater. Bridges such as the proposed new river crossing are a boondoggle to enrich the few while destroying what we have already supposedly protected.

doesnt the bridge go over the river? explain how this hurts the river. do u make all your products in your house?

what makes more sense? put a bunch of people who are all going the same direction in one vehicle or a bunch of vehicles? america's love affair with the automobile is nonsense.. we've been led by the nose into our present sprawl.

What makes more sense, assuming everybody's going to the same place at the same time? Or a bunch of individual vehicles that are driven to a location and at a time of one's choosing?

JW, a bridge such as the proposed one highly impacts the river, which is a National Scenic Riverway, supposedly protected from such abominations. On its banks are endangered plants. In its waters endangered mussels. All will be impacted as well as the visual beauty of the area scarred. Which products are you referring to? Do you ever use the shift key?

Bush is not president anymore, How much oil have we got for this war? In my car i can go anywhere, and when i get there im not reliant on how to find a train to get to a restaurant. yes my freedoms are awful. why dont you come on over to my house in cottage grove, we can run over to woodbury and get a bite to eat. might have a problem since there is no tracks or routes but you have your freedom.

This is the problem that is being solved very slowly thanks to the Republi-thugs. They are putting up road blocks daily to prevent moving ahead with modern, convenient, and affordable mass transit solutions.

We are killing ourselves, and our Mother the Earth, with the current automobile mentality. If we are to grow as a people in being sustainable, then we need to look towards mass transit as the mode of transportation for the future.

Our recent moves to expand the rail options are a good start. But it is only a start.

I didn't bring up Bush, you did, and maybe you can tell us all why... If you think this war is about Iraqi freedom then you believe a lot of strange nonsense. And the only reason we have any interest in the middle east outside of Israel is oil, my friend. the rest of your statement really goes to show that you believe the hooey that has been sold you about the "freedom of the American road". $300,000,000 for 144 riders, and how well planned this train is, did they plan a train for 144 riders???
