This is wrong, it is a boondoggle. There is no other description of the proposed extensions of the East LA Gold Line. The Line now ending at Atlantic will take 30 minuets for its run to Union Station with the line running at a maximum of 35 mph in the middle of the street. If extended as proposed on any of the routes it will be an hour long ride from Whittier to downtown. Who Is going to ride such a slow service? Busses can do just as well as the LRT extension if not better for this low density and low ridership line.



The ONLY practical route would be the LAX Whittier cross-town line running along Slauson and Randolph through a much denser corridor with a much higher positional ridership than any of the proposed routes that would have to run in the street with a slow running speed or on an expensive elevated structure. There could be faster direct service via the Blue Line, then east along Randolph to Whittier. If the UP does not want to relinquish its tracks through Huntington Park the line could be elevated to Boil/State St where the right of way widens to where there is enough right of way for the LRT and the UP lines to run together. This line could run through Whittier all the way to Brea along the existing UP right of way. By making use of the publicly owned route along Slauson from the Airport to the Blue line then share the UP right of way to Whittier and east would be a less costly faster and serve more riders then any of the other proposals. At least put this route on the list of lines to Whittier. If this route is not adopted a no build would be the best option for any extension of the Gold Line east to Whittier or along the 60 freeway do to the very slow street running and the long transit times.
