Is this just more whining about "safety" from Gloria, because she never got enough swag from this project, and wanted a subway?

The proactive mitigation of accident prone locations in order to reduce lawsuits is common sense and has nothing to do with "pandering to politicians and certain activists", it is much more logical to spend a couple million installing safety features now than to spend several dozen million in lawsuit costs later. And who are these "politicians and certain activists being pandered to" exactly?
The train runs through some of the densest areas of the second largest city in the nation, in a community with some of the highest pedestrian traffic west of the mississippi. The safety flaws were pointed out to the MTA several years back during scoping meetings, but they ignored them and waited until the comments were proven in real life, at the expense of several million in upgrades and an opening that is several months late.
Im sure your defense of "they are idiots for getting on the tracks" will hold up well in court when one of those knuckleheads sues the MTA.

No, this is pandering to the idiot parents and stupid kids/teens of this society. Parents teach your kids... kids need to fear death (or beating). Be proactive for true accidents (medically incompetent wanders into area); but we should not cater to stupidity. Lawsuits should not be won for a person being stupid (playing on the tracks, crossing the tracks).

Well, apparently you are not right, and your self righteous dribel about kids needing a beating (ironically kids in Boyle Hts and EastLA are some of the most beatdown conscious youth in LA county as they live amongst randomly violent gangbangers) is not enough becuase the MTA has made the decision to put up more safety gear.
In the court of law there is a concept of action within reason. the MTA has tons of lawyers who have mulled over this concept in the context of this train and come to the conclusion that people will be able to prove in court that they acted within it and still got hit by trains, so they decided to proactively mitigate the problem before it happens.

You can blather on all you want in an effort to judge others and feel better about yourself, but the bottom line is that the lawyers for the MTA concluded the train's design was enough of a liability to spend millions more to improve it. Very telling is the fact that you, and everybody else casting judgement, didnt say a peep when they did the same thing for stupid kids in South Pasadena a few years back. Not a peep from the peanut gallery back then.

But then again, you have no clue to the logistics or specific locations that have warranted this extra expense. Like I said earlier, many others more familiar with the trouble locations did, and they voiced it years ago, and the MTA has finally responded. The areas of concern are recieve some of the highest pedestrian traffic in one of the densest communities in the 2nd largest city in the country. Why dont you leanr a bit more about the situation before you get on your soap box. Apparently the MTA's trained lawyers and board are a little better equipped to judge the situation than some couch jockey being self righteous.
