Where is the best place to kayak?

Need more information. Are you renting, or do you own? Novice or experienced? Elkhorn Slough (Moss Landing) is great for wildlife viewing, especially birds; however, it is important to plan carefully for the best tidal conditions and time of day. The Bay along Cannery Row in Monterey offers a lot of wildlife as well, but ocean conditions can be more choppy than the slough.

If you are more experienced and have your own equipment, putting in at Whaler's Cove at Point Lobos State Park gives you a great chance to paddle around this beautiful area, but conditions are more challenging because when you paddle out of the cove, you are on the ocean rather than being in a bay.

There are rental shops at Moss Landing and in Monterey, and I am partial to Monterey Bay Kayaks at both locations.
