This is a perfect example of why this country is broken. I think that the highway officials should sue the motorcyclist for driving at speeds that were unsafe for conditions. If the road was known for wild hogs, the cyclist should have kept it under 15 mph. This is such a money suck.

It is a sad day when people no longer take responsibility for their own actions. You chose to ride, you accepted the risks. This would be like a stunt man suing for getting hurt while jumping out of a moving car. Get a life!

Could also have taken some responsibility for his own actions too. If I am riding a motorcycle and get hit by a wild, flying bird and sue for $8.6M are you going to suggest we put nets up along every road? Life sucks he hit a pig, if you aren't willing to accept the risk, don't ride!

Obviously this Drunk Driver and his attorney are thieves who have profited from our broken legal system, however, what it really disturbing about this is the fact that they could find enough morons to fill the jury box to return this verdict. What an endorsement for the total revamp of how we select jurors. There has to be some sort of minimal intelligence level, it was certainly absent in this group!

Monterey County is absolutely loaded with people that have minimal intelligence. Perhaps they were just unable to find 12 people with "average" intelligence that could understand english ?!!?

Hello to all out there,
I am Adam Rogers. And I just want to say that there is no way I was intoxicated that night. As I was, at that time, in training for a kickboxing match. I never would have become the United States Amateur light middleweight champion if I drank while I trained. Also, if I were .09, which is falling down drunk, how did I manage an expert forward roll fall. The move that saved my life. Also I was in fighting shape. I was injured that night. And not because I was drunk. As I was not.

It's sad that our legal system depends on 12 people who weren't smart enough to think up an excuse to get out of jury duty.
The last jury I was on, all 4 women jurors knew the guy was innocent, why? Because the defense attorney was so darn good looking with great hair and the DA was old fat and bald.
Now you figure that one out.

Wait ... Since when does a DUI pay you money??? This is a crime that this individual is being paid for his own mistake ... go ahead and cry about it family, bottom line is if he were sober this would be a different article (not to mention if it were human not pig life). Maybe its not just the Bankers but the legal system in this country that is extremely wasteful in its ventures. As a former DUI receipant who is fully sorry, fully paid, and long past the program I am absolutely pissed that this individual was let off with money. Karate is about discipline and this individual has let down their entire family, marital arts profession and even worse the hard tax payers of america by not taking responsibility of their actions. DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE GUY!!!! or else pay what you owe... when you fall asleep tonight dream off all the children and teachers who either can't get a bus ride to school or are waking up to pink slips.***NOTE TO ATTORNEY'S*** can someone do justice for us all and fix this injustice???? is there an attorney out there that really cares??? or is all just about the pay check??? the american people want Justice ... by the way whatever attorney lost this case ... go back to school YOU just cost taxpayers millions ... to the attorney that won the case President Obama has asked AIG to return their bonuses maybe you should return every dime from this case 2x for knowing you're manipulating the system. Another reason to distrust our "legal" system

No, no, no, bottom line is the State of California does not have good attorneys (at least in this case). This should have been an easy case. I would have liked to know what kind of motorcycle was being rode, were there any modifications, were the high beams on, did anybody estimate the speed on the motorcycle at the time of impact, were there skid marks. Seems like the state's focus was on the alcohol content of the rider when so many other factors could have been examined.

I don't agree with the verdict but I am a little disappointed in the mean spirited comments about the victim and the jury

I also find it interesting that the same mentality that condemns this and other jury verdicts seems to have no problem with capital punishment.
How can you support capital punishment if you believe that most juries are filled with persons of low intelligence and if you believe that prosecutors are incompetent etc etc.

It strikes me that a lot of persons are ready to set themselves up as judge, jury and executioner for a lot of cases about which they know very little.

Adam, I read the facts of the case and the county knew they had a growing problem with the pigs and they were negligent. If it had not been you, it would have been someone else. Maybe a van of children. Who knows. This is different than deer crossing the road or being hit by a bird. Readers need to examine the case a little closer before they rush to judgement. You, your attorney and the jury know the full true story, so stand firm.
