Absolutely no fireworks!

Come early. And leave your fireworks at home. That is the city of Monterey's official welcoming message for its 21st annual Fourth of July fireworks show.

Why go to Monterey on the 4th of July, when you can watch dozens of "bottle-rockets" in Marina. "Shock and Awe" has a new meaning in Marina. Don't leave your house it may burn down when you return.

The city of Marina must encourage non-profit groups to find sources of revenue other than the sale of fireworks. Some folks in Marina make no distinction between legal and illegal fireworks. This year the fourth of July falls on a Friday and we can expect illegal fireworks all night long.

This year the term “safe and sane fireworks” is an oxymoron. There must be other ways to support our local non-profit groups. Please ban the sale of all fireworks.

The City of Monterey puts on a good fireworks display every year. Whaaaaaa....you don't get to play with sparklers this year because the State of California is on fire, the peninsula is tinder-dry.... and finally someone with some say has come out and stated the obvious: NO FIREWORKS....
Observer, you sound like a whiny baby. Consider the environment; our air quality; our neighbors in the Santa Cruz Mountains who have lost their homes, pets, livestock and property; our neighbors in Big Sur and South County who are suffering from the fires in their areas....and you have the nerve to whine about fireworks?

I understand the dry situations going on but realistically, When has Marina last had a brush fire?? I see banning them in areas like the mountains, valleys and farm lands where growth is dry. But the cities where they have gone on for years?? I mean come on aren't there any patriotic people left in this liberal peninsula?? Hopefully a few years from now when my son is old enough to go to stand with me to pick out fireworks, the stand will still be there. Teach your kids safety and responsability people. Otherwise future will only bring ALL illegal fireworks.....

Nah, I'm complaining more about our local Keystone Kops and their fuhrer Shelby. Neither are worth a dern.
