When I came to Carmel Valley Village 15 years ago I was taken with the sense of community and the feeling of "knowing everyone". It really seemed like we should incorporate and this tight community including 4th and 5th generation families should be independent. It seemed like Carmel Valley Village with it's unique character should be on it's own. It felt like a special corner of the world and Randy should be the mayor.
Even then CV Village was changing. Even as a new-comer change was visible and quick! Perhaps it's the great teachers and low crime that brought the "yuppie" element (in a hurry and above the relaxed flavor). Certainly the beauty of the abundant nature encouraged more and more new people, like me. The changing atmosphere continued and the sense of knowing "everyone" subsided and the SUV speeders nearly slam into older peaceful vehicles. Greed grows and competition becomes fierce. Money is now a huge factor. The idea of incorporation is now a very different animal. True all cities have diversity in neighborhoods, but when I believed in becoming a town (more Mayberry) I did not consider Mid, and Mouth of the valley as "we and us". These people don't even travel to the Village. Perhaps they should try again next time and leave CV Village out of it. A bunch of Mid-Valley and Mouth-of-the-Valley snobby busy bodies are trying to railroad us in a desperate grab for our MONEY. Otherwise they consider the Village a hillbilly hideaway. The people spearheading the campaign for incorporation are all a "FORMER" something. "OOH, I used to be a professor, I was an officer, I USED to be on a board of snobbery, I used to be a really something, look at me, I’m really important."....Well, what’s wrong with living in the moment? I AM a semi skilled worker (college educated). I AM a lover of the nature around me. I AM relaxing on a Saturday and minding my own business and NOT trying to influence others (or am I?). I can hear the river and birds right NOW. Who cares who you think you are? You are going to die just like me, so relax. I voted no (by mail) on measure G. If things go as it seems they will then it will go down in a blaze of nothing. The new “can of worms” and bicker fest can rest in hibernation again. The poorly planned city of an undersized tax base can try again in another 15 years, after this group of busy bodied has-beens is dead or in a bliss of their own. If the city passes, I will go with it. I believe in democracy. Influenced by the Coast Weekly’s editorial I will embrace my neatly pressed and over perfumed has-been neighbors to the west. Perhaps it will be a great city and all will go as planned and we will only be better for it. WmBill of the Village. |
