What is your favorite restaurant in Monroe, NC?

Everyone has a favorite, what is yours and why?

We like El Vallarta in Monroe. It is nice to eat outside in the summer and the food is good and priced right.

El Vallarta is very good and the service is awesome.

I'm going to toss in a vote for Bob Gibson BBQ. Great food and great service. They also have a bar, if you would like an adult beverage.

Spiro's Hilltop is great, the prices are good and the food is excellent. The food is great at Tumbleweeds too.

Unbelievably, I've yet to visit the new Hilltop. I've seen the commercials and my wife loves it. Good choice I'm sure.

The DownUnder sports bar at Hilltop is nice too.

I enjoy Hawaiian Barbecue on US-74. Amazing Vietnamese, Japanese, and Hawaiian food. Friendly staff and owner too.

I also enjoy going to Oasis for lunch, great friendly staff there as well.

I have several favorites:

I like BLUE MOON a lot. The food there is excellent, a nice wine list and very good service.

MUCCI'S is very good. I like good Italian and they serve good basic Italian. Nothing thrilling but good. Decent wine list. Nice atmosphere and good service.

BLESSINGS is awesome for a nice midday meal and nice ambiance. I love their Reuben which is the best in the area by far (nothing in Charlotte can touch it). I just wish they served Beer!

DUKES GRILL is the place for a great old time, huge, loaded, sloppy and delicious hamburger. Best around by far!

If you like good old southern cuisine you have two good choices; GINO'S IN WINGATE is number uno. Big helpings, nice clean friendly place and very reasonable. Second is JUD'S on 74 in Monroe. Nice people, good consistent servings but a tad more expensive.

Looking for BBQ but can't wait a year for Unionville? Try MIDWAY BBQ on Charlotte Ave in Monroe. Real Western, NC Lexington NC style BBQ is served there. You get plenty and the price is right.

I've been to Big Bob Gibson 3 times and have been disappointed all 3 times in the small servings, the high price and the "yankeetized" style of BBQ (yes I know he was from Texas but the folks at Big Bob don't understand REAL NC barbeque-Lexington style or down east style)

We Native North Carolinians take offense at people that think anything cooked over a grill is barbeque. It might be barbequed but it certainly isn't barbeque. Real barbeque is pork slow cooked preferably over hot Hickory coals until the meat literally is so tender that it falls away from the bones. Prior to cooking, the meat is rubbed and patted with spices and coated with a secret sauce that someone's grandmother invented just after the war of Northern Aggression and has been passed down from generation to generation without altering. That same secret sauce is used to keep the meat moist over the fire. m-m-m-m-m good!

The problem with Big Bob Gibson is that if you order their pulled pork you will get a small serving and you pay a lot for it. People around here are use to getting a lot of BBQ for their money. It's kind of a rip off.

On the other hand if you order ribs at Big Bob Gibson you will get your moneys worth. Their Beef BBQ is pretty good too. Try the white BBQ sauce.

...if you want NC chopped pork BBQ go to Lexington NC or wait for the Unionville BBQ.(Midway is ok+, Elliot's in Matthews is ok- but more expensive. Cook Out++ is very good too!)

.....if you want Kansas City or Texas style BBQ Big Bob Gibson is ok.

I have several. If I want the best chilli cheeseburger-DUKES. Japanese buffet-AJIMI'S. Steak-O'CHARLEY'S. Italain-NAPOLI'S. Fastfood-CHICK FIL A. Hotdog or BBQ sandwich-OASIS. grilled chicken alfredo-APPLEBEES. Country Homecooking-VILLAGE GRILL. dang! im hungry now!!!
