"C. YOU WERE A WIDOW OR WIDOWER DURING ALL OR PART OF 2006 AND WERE 50 YRS OLD OR OLDER AS OF Dec. 31ST 2006."
If you had the misfortune to be divorced or remained single, you are not eligible until 65.
This bill (HB39) seems to actually discriminate against many PA residents due to their present or past marital status.
ie: 50 yr old widow can make up to $35,000 and still receive rebate. Divorced and make $5,000 you are not eligible until age 65

I guess I am the only one that finds it odd our state makes laws based on marital status. Seems like discrimination to me.

Mary it seems like you like to take advantage of the system. Then when it doesn't work for you. You wine.

Have to agree with Mary. A rebate should be given to those in the lower income bracket, widowed or not. Plenty of married couples are living on a very small income. The single guy that pulls in $3,000 a month doesn't need the money as much as the couple trying to make it on $1,200. I fall into neither of these categories so don't accuse me of whining.

Window watcher - thanks for understanding the spirit of my post. Rebate should be given by financial need - not marital status.

LOL, not only that - this bill falls under "property tax rebate for senior citizens" Not sure how 50 year old widows got in there anyway. But single, married, divorced, poor people ignored until 65.

I can't believe our state grants rebates according to marital status not financial status.

Since when is the state of PA allowed to discriminate against citizens due to their marital status? Property tax rebate only if widowed?
