Is this a state program or can it be intoduced & rolled out natinwide? scholarships are an excellent incentive when linked to recycling programs. Great idea for everyone. Youngsters benefit from receiving education funding and everyone else benefits from their recycling efforts.

Recent poll indicates at least 8 out of every 10 persons will use the new local recycling facilities

Let's all do our part and recycle when ever possible!

Thanks!

It's great to see Kingman stepping up recycling efforts. The following example is from BHC where they are on a roll in a good way. If you live in BHC the following locations are up and running!

Recycling paying off for Bullhead City

By NEIL YOUNG/The Daily News

BULLHEAD CITY - The city of Bullhead City has been banking the money it's been getting from selling materials deposited at its three drop-off recycling centers since the program started in January.

“We get a check each month from Bulldog Disposal and Recycling,” said Brenda Richardson, Bullhead City administrative analyst,“and that money is put into a ‘park amenities' fund and the purpose of that is to give back to the community for their efforts in recycling.”

During the first eight months of the program, the city deposited $3,576 in the account. The fund was used to purchase 19 Rosewood trees for $2,459, according to Dave Heath, Bullhead City recreation director. The trees will be planted Saturday around the Ka-BOOM! Playground in Rotary Park as part of Make A Difference Day.

Since the recycling program began, 84 tons of paper, plastic bottles, steel and aluminum cans have been diverted from the landfill, according to Richardson.

In addition, the city is launching an internal waste paper recycling program in its buildings on Trane Road and Marina Boulevard. Each employee's desk will have a recycling container, Richardson said.“Once it's full, it'll be taken to another, larger roll-away cart.” The carts will be picked up by Bulldog. There's no money involved in this transaction, she said.

“Our drop-off recycling program is a pilot program and eventually we'd like to go to curbside recycling,” Richardson said. The program was started with two grants from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality. A $25,000 grant covered its implementation and a $2,500 grant went toward publicizing the program. The larger grant was used to purchase four 20-yard recycling bins at $5,370 each.

The bins are located at Sam's Club, 600 Highway 95; River Gardens Plaza, 835 Hancock Road; and the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 2840 Highway 95.

It's a great program Jennifer and a way to make a few extra bucks just transporting things you would normally throw away over to the recycling facility. Common sense idea but works extremely well

Every couple months I pocket at least $30 to $40 extra bucks from recycling. Not getting rich but it's not a bad little chunk of change considering it was stuff to be thrown out anyway.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Scorpio

Something that you've always taken for granted or believed implicitly could have a big question mark hanging over it during the next few weeks. The more entrenched your views are about this, the more difficult it will be to accept that perhaps it's time for a change of opinion or, at the very least, a revaluation of what you think. Mercury turns retro in your house of communications, so do your best to be open-minded now.
