Almost no crime is committed with assault rifles. They are simply a strawman argument the anti-gun folks like to throw around.

I dont consider it a straw man at all. I think it crosses the line from a gun for protection or sport into a purely military weapon. If you argue there should be no such line, are you then condoning private ownership of tanks? artillery? how about personal thermonuclear devices? seriously, it is a military weapon and a scarey one. while the current level of usage in crime might be low (I dont know), there is an escalation factor in weapons criminal use. 30 years ago, police and bad guys had revolvers...gradually, the crooks moved into automatic weapons as they became more plentiful and available. the same will happe with assault weapons
