Nothing in Florida yet...what a surprise.(Of course, some people have never heard of an automatic drip coffeemaker and would rather spend the $3.75 on up for a cup of coffee you can't even order in English!)

Thank goodness they aren't shutting down any of the 200 Starbucks in Chicago. Where would I get my coffee? Oh, the one on the other corner of the street, never mind.

Amid all of these closings.....they have just built a new Starbucks in the Gurnee/Waukegan area, just about to open. Hmmmmm......

I am one of the few who have never had anything from Starbucks. I once went into a Starbucks in Naples, Florida and laughed at the silly prices for coffee, never to enter again.

People ordering $3.75 drinks are not getting coffee. They are getting espresso drinks. COFFEE costs about $2 at Starbucks, whereas the lattes and cappuccinos are a lot more. Good luck making a latte with a drip coffee maker. Is it really that hard to say Venti?

Hmm

The Starbucks at North and York in Elmhurst made no sense. There is a Starbucks 2 blocks away in downtown Elmhurst. The only way to make the one on North work is if it was standalone and had a drive through, but it was attached, and you had to walk in. In chicago it might work to have Starbucks 2 blocks apart, but in a suburb with 10 coffee places within those 2 blocks, it made no sense to have 2 starbucks.

Yes when calling it a large is much more clear to the average consumer.. Venti... Does this look like Europe?

Maybe they should have just tried first by lowering the price of a cup of coffee - duh!

Another example of business people who don't get it. When the strategy is simply to throw up a bunch of locations, it's destined to fail.
Next to learn this lesson: Walgreens.

One thing to note is that the article says Starbucks is closing 600 company-run stores. That means that any franchises would remain open.
As it also said, this is to get rid of under performing stores... so if your Starbucks is always busy, it's going to stay around!

See how a free market works ppl?
Underperforming store close and new ones open in more prosperous areas.
You don't like Starbucks don't spend your money there. Simple as that.
I don't dring coffee so I don't get the passion...but it's none of my business if ppl want to spend their money on one brand coffee over another.

The ones in grocery stores and airports are all licensed stores, and are run by the grocery stores. I don't know if those will close. They always put those things in stores that are right next to a Starbucks.
