On July 22 I had both orientation and skill trades interview with AIDT. I wonder if since than, does anybody in a similar situation, received any letter or phonecall, concerning the next step, which as far I understood from AIDT representative, should be something about their 32 hours trainning arrangements.

I went to my orientation on the 19th they let the people that came from far away stay and do their first aidt interview that day to. The people from TK were there to doing alot of interviewing. My friend was waiting outside and said the guy parked next to us said he got hired that day. Guys that haven't been to orientation yet when you go you should dress like your going to a job interview not like your on vacation and take your hats off in the building.

I've been through the program up through the TK interviews with their HR and then the operations panel interview. This is for an operator position. I've heard of some people getting hired on the spot but my guess is that most are like me and waiting for "the call".
Orientation is all about telling you what they expect and what you can expect. Drug-free, 12 hour shifts, work all holidays if scheduled, hot and potentially dangerous environment for the careless, the need for low absenteeism, etc. You sign a sheet saying you want to go forward in the process after hearing what they have to say.
Dress casual if you're serious. It isn't church but it isn't the time to wear your flip flops, tank top, and cut-offs either.

I am going to AIDT training on Nov. 16 - 19. I would like to drive by the plant. Does anyone know the directions from the AIDT office to the plant?

Thank you.

Conrats on making it to the classes!

Get on Airport Rd. and follow it out to I-65. Go about 15 miles north on I-65 and take exit 19. This puts you on highway 43. You want to go north on 43 - if you go the other way you go into Satsuma.

Once on highway 43 just keep going (20 miles) until you pass the town of Mt. Vernon and start looking for an overpass. There aren't a lot of overpasses in Alabama but there is one for the new TK plant. I think the road is ThyssenKrupp Rd. so there are road signs as well.

Hey Adrian, what stage have you made it to? I'm in Riverview, Michigan, and have been through the 32 hours of training and testing at AIDT and the first HR interview with TK.

How many other Michiganders read this forum?

I, too, was working at Severstal Steel in Dearborn. I was at the BOF when the March 23rd reduction in force took effect.

Hey Sailor, what's the Operations Panel like in the second interview? What questions do they ask?

For me, the interview group consisted of about eight people, almost all from operations in way or another (there was one HR person - didn't say much). It lasted a little over 30 minutes. Questions centered on my operations background, safety matters, quality, absenteeism, etc. They wanted to know if I could deal with 12 hour shifts, on holidays, in a potentially hot and dangerous environment. Most of the questions had come up in the previous interviews. They also asked about any mechanical skills I might have (pipefitting for instance). Not sure why but maybe they hired some people to work along with construction crews?

I have no idea about how I did (seemed OK), if I am on their "to hire" list or when might I get "the call".

I've seen interviewees dress in suits and I've seen them in athletic shoes & T-shirts. I'm wondering what the best way to dress is. I'm thinking that a set of Dockers and a golf shirt with leather shoes would be good, but my wife thinks I should wear a dress shirt and tie. Any ideas?

Thank you, Sailor. That information is very helpful for me. I believe I'll be fine on those questions because I've got 11 years of Operations time, both in control rooms and in the plant. Safety training was huge in the Navy and in the nuclear plant where I worked for three years. I've been a QA inspector and a maintenance tech at Gallatin Steel, too, and almost no absences unless I'm pretty sick.

i went thru everything including the HR interview at the end and waiting for the call. The HR interview was 3 people, H.R. Head, 1 rep for Stainless and another rep for Carbon. The latest is that Thyssen is laying off 20000 people worldwide and delaying scheduled startups in Alabama. This affects hiring timeline but they plan to continue the overall scope of the operation as it was originally intended.

I trained about 14 months ago here in Mobile. I have been to several interviews. Recently, I got a call that I was going to be hired for the hot strip mill. I'm waiting for the next call to be hired and sent to Germany for further training..feb. I think? Good luck to all.
