Excelsior uneasy about busy bike crossing

“But for a recreational biker on the weekend, it's not unsafe at all.”

A bicyclist zig-zagged through traffic on Water Street. The trail crosses the street at an angle, a design the city fears is an accident waiting to happen. via Star Tribune

I also live near here and use this trail NOBODY EVER STOPR NOT EVEN THO POLICE NOR SHERRIFS! I was saddened the day my Son and I were trying to cross when a soth lake police officer and a Hennepin county shereiff both drove past us without even slowing down! Something needs to change about these crossing here in Excelsior and also all the fast and Heavy trasffic around Morse ave as well!

I don't know how long you've lived around these parts but it's common wisdom that suggests the police & sheriff depts. don't give two hoots about safety of residents beyond enforcing DUIs. Speeding doesn't even hit their radar. Nor do bicycle crossings, as you've learned.

You can try the city council but, as with all Lake Minnetonka area cities, you'll likely get deaf ears for your pleas. It's a sad, unfriendly place we live in. Fortunately it's beautiful. Were it not for that fact living here would be a shameful waste.

Everyone is at fault! There are those bikers who think that the world is going to stop for them (its not going to happen). The city also has some work to do too. If everyone just looked out for eachother and didn't speed or do things wrong then we wouldn't need the cops but we don't live in a world like that so get used to it. It could all start with you! Next time you are driving on the road speeding or not stoping for a biker think about what you do for your actions. Before you complain think about what you have done.
