The SWC Watershed District should put the $7000 to better use than to give rain sensors to rich people. If they can afford $4.88 a gallon for water they can purchase their own $50 rain sensor to regulate their sprinkling system. Crazy.

Otherwise, we'd be pumping gas on those lawns!

Of course they could afford the $50 sensor. Frankly, this is just pure selfishness. The water they're using is completely unnecessary for their needs, but they do nothing to curb the situation. Maybe they should be assessed directly on their taxes for the new well that will be required. It seems that while the rest of us are putting out water barrels and setting up low-flow systems, water-wasters need to take a greater responsibility. Maybe we're not hitting them hard enough in the pocket book.

Please wait...
The Bolsheviks have taken control of Woodbury. Why should the government care how much water a person uses. It’s being paid for. Now it’s water, in 2012 you won’t be able to buy an incandescent bulb and next year your TV won’t work. Wait until you get taxed for your carbon dioxide use.
So much for personal freedom and liberty. We have turned it over to big brother who will use the force of government to control our lives..

To Woodbury Water Nazi's - what a great idea, add costs to the process and build a new layer of government bureacracy to audit what appears to be a single homeowner abusing the system. If they can afford to pay the costs, isn't; that good enough?

What's wrong with these idiots, 471,000 thousand gallons over one summer? If you look at a "summer," being from early May to late September, that averages out to 3,500 gallons a day. These wasteful hogs used almost 1/4 of the capacity of the new watertower. For what, to keep their grass green? Put a governor on their supply line, at their expense, with an automatic shut-off after so many gallons a day. How people this stupid, ever accumulated any wealth at all is amazing. Maybe it's not stupidity so much as "entitlement."

If they pay for the incredible amount of water they use, I don't see a problem here.

How about we audit the Big Ethonal plants for water usage? It takes a lot of water and fossil fuels to make this garbage

Why would they want to water the lawn is beyond me. The more you water it, the more you have to cut it.

Wow. Can't you tell us the address of these people?! What a bunch of wasteful, disgusting homeowners. Pull the plug on these people before summer hits. Wow. These people are absolutly disgusting.

"that averages out to 3,500 gallons a day."
That's enough to fill a good sized swimming pool every four days! Is their usage accurate as reported, or are they up to their a$$es in a sink hole?

While it does seem a bit excessive- if the homeowners are paying, then I really don't see a problem?! Perhaps the city of Woodbury needs something more productive to do with their time than act as "water police."

It matters because the city has to dig a new well and build a new water tower so clowns like this can have pretty green grass. So what if they're willing to pay for water? It isn't just the water hogs who are paying for it, it's everyone who has to pay for water and has to pay more to increase the capacity. Nothing happens in a vacuum.

While I don't agree with more government regulation or control of just about anything, this sure seems to be something that needs attention. If they really need that much water, OK. But, it they have a water leak or just need an education on how to water, it shouldn't hurt to at least talk to them. I remember a story a while back about a family that had a pond or spring in their back yard for years. Then a water main leak was discovered and it went away.

They can afford to pay the bill but their wasting on water does affect other people living in the city and it is the responsibility of the city to control and monitor the amount of the water that these people are wasting. If you are so opposed to the government's intervention then don't put your seat belt on when you are driving as the law has required. After all it is your life and who care if you crash and die in a car accident. People like you that do not want any government's intervention is not that valuable anyway to the society and we don't need that kind of people. Sucker.

First of all, the water a city pumps from aquafirs is not an endless supply; wells can run dry. They are very expensive to maintain, re-drill, and construct. Water towers are expensive as well. Another problem with water waste is fire protection. If a city's waterworks is excessively taxed and there's a structure fire, there won't be enough water/water pressure to put it out. Conservation isn't a bad thing. Like many aspects of our society some people can't regulate themselves- operate in moderation- so government has to step in. I'm happy the city is going after idots such as this.

Hey, these water users of 471000 gallons may have a new pool, and possibly during the summer a kid may have pooped in it, so they had to drain, clean and refill, maybe more than once. As long as they are paying for the water, that should suffice. You can't blame the need to increase water storage for the city on users. Woodbury's growth is so rapid that was coming anyway.
