DNR to bands: Mille Lacs has problem

In a letter e-mailed Friday to GLIFWC, the DNR said a shortage of male walleyes in Mille Lacs is worrisome, and "continued harvest management under the [current management system] may not be possible."

I hate to say I told them so..........

WHY is the DNR continuing to stock walleye fry in Mille Lacs, at taxpayer expense, when there is no law compelling them to do so?

The correct response should be:

1. If you want the MINNESOTA DNR to stock/restock Mille Lacs Lake, and ANY OTHER LAKE that you want to throw your SYNTHETIC, FISH KILLING NETS into, then the "Bands" should bear ALL of the COSTS.

2. The DNR should only stock/restock lakes that are not netted by the bands. In other words, support SUSTAINABLE, RECREATIONAL, ENJOYABLE, REWARDABLE, FISHING. Mille Lacs ISN'T a commercial fishery. Never was, NEVER WILL BE. When you go to restaurants, DO NOT order WALLEYE.

Many of may relatives went fishing on opening day on Mille Lacs. They caught about 30 fish, but couldn't keep a SINGLE FISH. They collectively spent probably about $200 in licenses, gas, tackle, bait, etc., yet they couldn't keep a SINGLE FISH because of the STUPID SLOT LIMIT.

That's why I don't fish anymore. You have to be INSANE to launch a boat there anymore. During the netting, the indians filled up all of the boat launches parking lots with their campers and RVs, with plenty of law-enforcement around, so nobody would "harass" them, while they RAPED the lake, unimpaired by the DNR or the media.

When I fish, I don't fish to "catch and release". I fish to EAT what I CATCH, within reasonable limits. That's the definition of a SANE person.

That's not what I hear, but I would like to hear from an "official" from the MN DNR saying it one way or another, in front of the PRESS, not some "leak" that gets let out.

This action by the DNR will result in complete removal of restrictions on the Indians.

Idins will be able to net anything and still have monopoly on gaming in Minnesota..

Well, the State DID restock Lower Red Lake, at a cost of MILLIONS of taxpayer dollars, after the Indians up their turned into a "dead sea".

I can certainly see the Mille Lacs band doing the same thing to Mille Lacs, and several other lakes.

The DNR should NOT restock those lakes that have been killed off by netting.

The PRIME Market size for walleyes is 15-19 inches.

The Natives that seek to practice thier "cultural heritage" with Power Boats, steel speers, gill nets, and Mega Bright Lights (European inventions) are over harvesting (by coincedence) the PRIME Marketable Sized Walleye.

The ever evolving "slot" that the fisherman who PAY for the resource can keep, happens to be right in the PRIME Market size that the Natives harvest for thier consumption.
