What is with all these missing students? Students, I think you'd better start watching what's going on around you and maybe be a bit more careful what activities you participate in. Looks like some of those parties are a bit dangerous. At the very least drinking is dangerous if you don't know the limits. What good is it to get an education if all you're going to do is party it away? Be careful so we don't hear about any more missing students. You're our future.

Parents keep in touch with your kids even though they may be in college. This young man is still only eighteen years old, he is not legal to drink, but he was coming from a house party when he disappeared. I hope is is found safe, anyone with any information on the young man, please contact the police right away.

Another reason for "Social Host Liability" in Minnesota. If the host of any home party was "legally" responsible for serving anyone alcohol, and they were injured or injured someone else (similar to the Dram Shop Laws in Minnesota)just maybe we could at least help the victims or the survivors! The Legislature need to take this Statutue on soon, VERY SOON!

Please continue with the "smiley face" clues, sounds like the same clues as before. I hope this family finds their son.

Also try to be with a Friend when your near water & stay far away from alcohol !! JMO Peace '09 Please lay off the pot and realize that with or without booze, these kids are missing. Let's say that the kid loaded up on pop or water like you suggest, would it really make a difference in him missing? I really like you 420, but on this one I must disagree. jmo

Did his cell phone have any kind of GPS. They would be able to track it if they did. Either way it doesn't sound good. Sending positive energy via Topix!!!

If the kid was intoxicated at the time of his gone missing - of course it could have made a difference. Are you on pot or something? It's a little bit clueless to think that alcohol wouldn't have made a difference one way or the other. Alcohol has done it's share of damage through the years - to many people - including death.

such a sad and tragic story...but until teenagers realize the real dangers of alcohol we will continue to read and see stories like this unfold before our eyes. The feeling of invincability is what will destroy these teenagers until someone can get thru to them...like, oh maybe....their PARENTS....... I do realize parents can't follow their kids around 24-7 but at least make an effort to talk to your son/daughter about the dangers of alcohol..PLEASE......

This doesn't bother anyone else? College kids going missing from parties- always down by the river... and -no one- is freaking out? It's always college guys. Has no one figured out that maybe we should really press the police department to look into it?

I do realize parents can't follow their kids around 24-7 but at least make an effort to talk to your son/daughter about the dangers of alcohol..PLEASE...... I can still remember the first time I tried a beer. I hadn't even drank more then maybe 4 swallows of one and it affected me enough to not have the proper judgment behind the wheel of a vehicle. It was the most stupid thing I could have done at the time - get behind the wheel of a vehicle. If you're not used to drinking, alcohol can have a pretty immediate effect and no telling how much it can affect you. I never have drank much in my life - maybe an occasional drink. I still remember an evening I drank four beers while talking on the phone and ended up sick. I haven't drank a drop since and that was 15 years ago.(To be fair I am taking a few prescriptions now and won't mix the two.) The only safe place to experiment with alcohol as a kid is when you're safe at home with people around and can just hop into bed afterward.

The other issue is the effect alcohol will have on his blood sugars. Type 1 diabetics must constantly monitor there sugar levels. Too much glucose is as bad as too little glucose in the blood. This can lead to serious errors in judgment and mood swings.

The kid is diabetic and was drinking? Then on top of it, walking along a swollen river at night? Smart.

NO, cell phones do not have GPS unless you specifically buy one that has that. All they can do is triangulate the calls from the local towers.

Has no one figured out that maybe we should really press the police department to look into it? A study was actually done regarding behavior and for some reason if you mix male and alcohol and water near by they head for the water. The smiley face serial killer has been researched and they have not shown it to be consistent. In this situation, I've searched this area before and it is extremely steep and rough terrain he could easily have gone into the river. Not a safe place to be late at night.
