City Officials Tell Chick-Fil-A They Are Not Welcome In Wake Of Homophobic Comments By Company President Chick-Fil-A’s plans to expand into one of the nation’s largest cities has hit a snag, after Boston Mayor Thomas Menino sent a scathing letter to company president Dan Cathy informing him that so long as the company remained intolerant of the LGBT community, Boston would remain intolerant of Chick-Fil-A. In a letter dated July 20, Menino writes: You called supporters of gay marriage “prideful”. Here in Boston, to borrow your own words, we are “guilty as charged.” We are indeed full of pride for our support of same sex marriage and our work to expand freedom to all people. We are proud that our state and our city have led the way for the country on equal marriage rights. Chick-Fil-A had reportedly been seeking property along the city’s famous Freedom Trail, a tourism hotspot and prime real estate for businesses, for its first Boston location. But Menino has vowed to block any attempt by the company to open a new store.“There is no place for discrimination on Boston’s Freedom Trail and no place for your company alongside it,” he wrote in the letter. Menino’s letter may have been just the first crack in the dam. Yesterday, Chicago alderman Joe Moreno made a similar pledge to block any attempts by the chain to build its second store in the city, proposed for the highly trafficked Logan Square neighborhood whose zoning is controlled by Moreno. “If you are discriminating against a segment of the community, I don’t want you in the 1st Ward,” he said on Tuesday in an interview with the Chicago Tribune. The chain, which has stores nationwide and currently ranks as the nation’s 10th largest fast food company, has found itself at the center of a maelstrom of criticism after Cathy’s remarks.

This is nothing but Menino pandering to votes. This case will go to court, and the court will rule Menino's actions as unconstituational. You can't decide zoning based on a business owner's personal opinion of gay marriage rights. Mayor Menino, who will never be mistaken for the fastest Duck Boat on the river, gets his facts wrong as usual. Nobody is accusing Chick-fil-A of “discriminating against a population” or anyone else. Chick-fil-A’s owner is an evangelical Christian who, like about half of all Americans, doesn’t support same-sex marriages. That’s all. In other words, he has the same opinion about same-sex marriage as every devout Catholic in Massachusetts, and Mayor Menino has announced he won’t allow the man to do business in Boston. Banning businesses from Boston because he doesn’t like them is nothing new for Mayor Menino. He’s told Wal-Mart they’ll never get in (despite the promise of hundreds of new, desperately-needed jobs) and he won’t let CVS operate low-cost “Minute Clinics” in Boston because they aren’t run by the government. But this attack on Chick-fil-A is worse. Forget the jobs these restaurants would create or the taxes they would pay. This is a government thug announcing “You either share my political views, or you lose your rights in my town.” Imagine an evangelical Mayor announcing that gay business owners weren’t allowed, or that people who support Obama can’t open a store in that town. The only reaction would be outrage. So here’s what we need, Mayor Menino: Please post at City Hall a detailed list of all the opinions on political issues that are now “banned in Boston.” From abortion to xenophobia, give us a comprehensive list of what we are/are not allowed to believe if we want to be able to pull permits and start a business. God Government forbid we fall into the sin of actual diversity… http://michaelgraham.com/archives/chick-fil-a...

So the Mayor of Boston will discriminate against the Cathy family because of their religious beliefs. Seems fair. After all, he's a public official. He's entitled to his opinions. It's ok if he discriminates.

You're free to have beliefs, when you use them to lobby against a segment of society..... IT'S A STUPID, UNSUPPORTABLE BUSINESS DECISION WITH COSTS ~! Funny, the city would have to offer police/fire and city services to a business who brought censor down, by vocally working against a group with different religious/lifestyle choices... Too bad, you NEED to pretend--- hate is a family value...

Who gives a FLYING EFF as to what "baston" thinks about Chik Fil A. I've never been there, never plan to visit. THAT CITY was one of the biggest bunglers in the 9/11 attacks, so GO FIGURE. I WILL SUPPORT CHIK FIL A as much as I CAN, WHEN I CAN. SCREW BOSTON. If they are THAT STUPID, then I won't shed any tears as to their inevitable demise.
