The rich get richer.... Minnesota farmers ranked fourth in the country in farm subsidies. Not counting the billions in ethanol subsidies, they have received $15.2 billion in subsidies from 1995-2010. And that is just the MN side. So before you complain about greedy unions, think about the greediest union of them all, the ag industry.

NONE of the farmer/owners of Crystal Sugar had health care coverage even close to what the union workers were getting.

Let me see, On the one hand, you have a job, and income, You can buy groceries, make house payments, etc. ON the other hand, you can stand on a picket line, have no income, not be able to pay for groceries, or house payments etc. And the only arguement I have seen in favor of staying out on strike is...... the company is being unfair and giving management people a better deal!! Fair is where you buy pigs in August. Makes perfect sense to me.

Stay on the picket line. Don't let the man dictate to you what he will pay and who will do what jobs.

The other sad part of the defense being put up by those who support the union position is they honestly believe those who work in management, most of whom have college degrees or better, are there equals when it comes to employment or advancement. They believe the crap they are fed by the union bosses. It is sad, because most will take years, if at all, to get back what they have lost by going out on strike. They don't realize how much they have lost!

That is a magnificent example of the Democrat mentality. Hey, know what is so great about a free market economy? You can choose to buy C&H, or Crystal, or a store brand (although odds are that was produced by American Crystal). Ain't America great? Now, when you buy that C&H bag of sugar, buy a 2nd one and put it into the Food Shelf bin.

Slew is my hero wrote: The saddest part of this labor dispute is that the American Crystal workers are nothing more than cattle being lead to the slaughter by the union bosses. The union bosses still get their checks. The union did not even have a strike fund set up. The union leadership should be sued for malfeasance. Agreed. CWA is doing the same with their workers as well these days. All numb-brains, no balls or backbone. Throwing tons of money at loser democratic politicans instead of building up strike funds, and mismanaging those funds BIG TIME.

Slew is my hero wrote: <quoted text> Brilliant. You are just the type of idiot I was talking about. Contract negotiations began a full year before the workers were locked out. The company was very public with their books and the limits they were willing to go to in order to avoid a labor dispute. They were also very public on the fact that the contract being voted on this weekend was the best and final offer from the management team. The union told the members that management would fold and that they should stand firm. The union membership obviously listened to the union goon leaders. The union members knew there was no unemployment insurance in the state of North Dakota if there was a labor dispute. The idiots in the union have shot themselves in the foot and shown what jackasses they are. They turned down a 14% increase when their base pay was already 20% higher than the regional average. They are getting what they deserve. Vote that contract down! Show the world that you will not be pawns of "the man". Yeah, f-ing brilliant. By the way, each time I go grocery shopping, I buy a couple of bags of Crystal Sugar and place them into the Food Shelf box. Two good deeds accomplished - support the company and support the Food Shelves. The "digger" quote that you responded to was not from the original DIGGER. It was an IMPOSTER, trying to undermine my credibility. I, the ORIGINAL "digger" NEVER sent that post. The workers up there should have taken the best, and FIRST deal, that they were offered. Now, they may not have ANY job at all.

Seems like you're clearly clueless and schizophrenic as well... The offers HAVE SUCKED and American workers are tired of earning the same in 343 years as the typical CEO earns in ONE ! In 2010, chief executives at some of the nation's largest companies earned an average of $11.4 million in total pay -- 343 times more than a typical American worker, according to the AFL-CIO. "Despite the collapse of the financial market at the hands of executives less than 3 years ago, the disparity between CEO and workers' pay has continued to grow to levels that are simply stunning," said Richard Trumka, AFL-CIO president.

It is reprehensible, stupid, juvenile, traitorous, unethical, and un-American.

Unions should give up on Democrats. Focus all political action on gaining ALL workers more rights!
Building up strike funds and other savings would be smart. I wish I were in union because it sucks making just over $10 an hour with no benefits. Why do all the anti-union people want to make life harder for everyone - do we really want future generations to be poorer than the Chinese?!?
