And now you want to cut & run. Very classy. I said you do not show the Irish work ethic I have known. Now you are showing the pigheadedness of the Irish. and I am part Irish. Just as pigheaded with a touch of German determination. You seem to be twisting everything people say to you. I did not attack you in any way. My Irish ancestors were very hard drinking and worked hard to get anywhere, they came when signs said no Irish hired here. when Irish were told to say out os some bars because they drank too much and wanted to fight anything that could walk on two feet or four is the whiskey was good. Work ethic, hell most of my relatives would be an hour early so they could sober up before work. Then put in 14 hours of hard labor. If you have a work ethic it may be from the Irish but I bet you are not Irish in any manor. I am proud of my English, Irish, German, Scotch and French history. They all worked hard. The Irish were the most Unionized, the Germans the most precise and the English the most bullsh*ters (Together, they give a good handle on gift of gab). Been to Detroit lately? Flint? Do you drive an import, talk on a cell phone or use a computer made by non-union labor? Whats the plan when union labor is so cost prohibitive that hardly any competitive minded American business can afford it, or production costs put more factories out of business? Is the plan to force the government to prop up those industries some more, nationalizing more and more private firms in the name of economic security until the state owns everything, financed by China? Or, do we wage a trade war and do our best to knock our faster, cheaper and more efficient competitors down to our size with our weakening dollar, watching domestic prices for everything triple and quadruple? Or, perhaps we send in operatives to infiltrate the labor force in foreign countries and spark labor unrest, hoping that unions take hold there and drive labor costs up, equal to our own and leveling the playing field? Oh, that's right. All we need to do is force CEO's to take less money and then tax them 80% on whatever they end up with. I'm sure that will keep the American dream alive.

Labor unions had better get with the 21st century and either start being more willing to work with employers or start retraining their members. Anything that a man can do, such as putting a bolt on a fender, nailing on shingles, assembling almost anything, driving LRT trains and city buses, even teaching, can and are gradually being replaced by robots and or computers. I believe Honda (or maybe it was Toyota) have built several plants to assemble cars in the US that are almost totally automated. If I recall correctly, the auto workers were none too happy about it but there was not much they could do. Every day, more and more jobs done by people are being done by robots. Even surgery is being done by robots.

Even surgery is being done by robots. I read an article, must've been over five years ago, that stated the WORLD had lost over 20 million manufacturing jobs in the last decade. We're not outsourcing to Mars, yet, so these jobs were just replaced by automation. The US wasn't even the biggest loser. I believe Brazil was, with the US being third. Now this does create many great jobs for those that create, program and maintain those machines. As to one of our more frequent discussions on Topix, you're probably gonna need more than a high school education for those jobs, though. the US

Work ethic is not genetic, nor is drunkenness, or any of the other things you listed. Seriously are you trying to make a link between ancestry and a predisposition to unions? How about you actually say why you feel he has no work ethic?

Trolls wrote: <quoted text> ITs called a joke Tick. But now that you mention it.....:) An elderly couple trolls & IrassWn were on a cruise and it was really stormy. They were standing on the back of the boat watching the moon, when a wave came up and washed the trolls overboard. They searched for days and couldn't find him, so the Captain sent the old woman back to shore, with the promise that he would notify her as soon as they found something. Three weeks went by and finally, the IrassWn got a fax from the boat. It read: Ma'am, sorry to inform you that we found your trolls dead, at the bottom of the ocean. We hauled trolls up to the deck, and attached to trolls butt was an oyster, and inside it was a pearl worth $50,000....please advise. The Irasswn faxed back: Send me the pearl and re-bait the trap.
