MnDOT check
Saint Paul, MN
|
A pedestrian bridge over the Hiawatha LRT and Hiawatha Ave has failed. The LRT line and Hiawatha Ave have been closed. MnDOT is attempting to repair the cable stayed bridge so it doesn't fall to the ground. MnDOT is telling us the Stillwater Lift bridge is SAFE?? Are they serious??? This pedestrian bridge has never been identified as a failing bridge and here we go it's failing and could completely fall to the ground. It's TIME MnDOT is upgraded with some COMPETENT people.

it's not an LRT bridge you fool and MNdot has nothing to do with this bridge. it is owned by the city of MPLS and is a pedestrian (walking...) bridge over the LRT. You should actually read an article before you post it....sheesh!

The bridge is only 5 years old. Critical connectors are breaking for unknown reasons.

Thin gussets are the issue.
Met Council is rolling out busses to take up the slack from the LRT closing.

Yeah but not as hideous as their 169/494 re-do. What is this, their third try at it?

When politicians waste our money making infrastructure elements “pretty” bad things happen. Let the engineers create the simplest structures satisfying our needs. It will be cheaper and safer. And there is a beauty in simplicity.

MNDOT-screamer is most likely confused because MNDOT is out there and made the decision to close hwy 55, as that is their purview. The bridge is not and was inspected by MPLS city engineers.

they have vast amounts of chemicals left to destroy out roads with they have not used any of their plows to need replacement for 2012 - 2013, watch this budget very close - did you see how much waste they were putting on the roads this am - no wonder our roads are falling apart.
