Why in the world wouldn't you donate the signage to the MN Historical Society? It's all about *money* isn't it? So. Gross. I can't even believe it.

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't Porky's closed for a time in the mid to late 80's I seem to remember picking up my cab in their lot, when I worked for Diamond cab, way back when.

I went there for lunch Thursday. I just made it down University going east before there closed the road on the south side. Sadly it won't be easy getting into Porky's for the last few days. They even have the entrance fenced so you go in the out driveway.. I know all things come to an end sometime but that doesn't make it any easier to take. Goodbye Porky's.. Thanks for the memories

The article doesn't say that the Minnesota Historical Society asked for it. The owners probably feel bad enough as it is without you heaping more on them.

On the bright side the TC folks will have a brand new light rail track down the middle of the street and some type of senior citizen living center where Porkey's was. Ah, progress.

Why should the owners pour their heart and soul into a business for decades, only to get to the end and be told they should give it away instead of selling what they can to enjoy their retirement? Why don't you buy the sign at auction and donate it to the 'history center'? It's all about money, isn't it?

They can't take their $ w/them when they pass on. Donating the signage would be a kind, Minnesotan-type gesture that would benefit all for memories sake. I would love to buy it and donate it, if I had the finances to do so. I honestly would do that. I have a historical preservation heart, what can I say?

Amazing how you people can pass judgement on the owners while at the same time telling us how good a person you are.

Why would they do this? Did you know that Porky's is the only good thing Saint Paul had got going? I spent countless nights at Porky's - especially during the Back to the 50's show, watching all the cars go buy and eating french fries...

I'd rather see Porky's than some useless building with no history, no memories. Why is PORKY's, the place where these "old" folks probably went, being torn down for THIS?! Seriously. I'm outraged. It's a monument. Next will be Mickey's Diner... They already tore out that awesome wood street down by Gold Medal Flour.

Who the hell are YOU to pass judgement on business owners such as these? What business do yoy own? How many people do YOU employ?

"Things are rough along the Avenue, and we won't know whether lrt was good for business or not until it's actually been operating for a while, but clearly the construction period will be rough on the businesses and the rest of us.....The nature of the Avenue is changing, and only time will tell if we like the new Avenue better than the old one. I'm betting we will, but if we don't I'll be the first to stand up and say I was wrong."

If any one is to be blamed it is MetroTransit, local Governments and the STUPID idea of Light Rail Transportation. They are forcing Porky's to close to make way I would much rather listen to restored musclecars rumbling down University Ave. than some ugly train that will serve no other purpose than to totally screw up useful/everyday traffic along with nostalgia! P.S. I love how the article gave no mention of why Porky's actually has to close, the Light Rail... Gotta love liberal media!!! Idiots.
