Principal tells PETA: Kids hunt, get over it

Full story: TwinCities.com

Do hunting and middle-school education mix? They do in tiny Poplar, Wis., where a middle-school bulletin board featuring pictures of students with their dead game has been caught in the crossfire of the ...

I think it's the duty of every able bodied person in Wisconsin to go hunting and reduce the ridiculously high population of deer. PETA would rather scream at people than rescue animals anyway.

Hooray for the people of Poplar! PETA needs to realize that they cannot force their will on everyone they see. The organization and the people that support them are nothing more than domestic TERRORISTS!

PETA needs to get a flippin' grip. It seems to me that they will say or do anything they feel necessary regardless of the truth. As far as "It's not our responsibility to defend indefensible actions," I would say that if the letter is that damaging to PETA's case that they won't print it, then the actions aren't as "indefensible" as they claim.

Good for Principal Ken Bartelt for not backing down. PETA is going way over board, and sticking their noses where they don't belong. What cowards for not printing Bartelt's response on their website. Talk about being one sided.

Does PETA even know where Wisconsin is? Let alone Poplar?

I also loved the part in this article where PETA takes issue with the name "Green Bay Packers." The name is offensive to them because "it highlighted violence to animals in slaughterhouses." Ah PETA.....a never-ending source of entertainment!

What ever happened to live and let live? Wasn't there a time once when it was possible for me to believe in something and for you to believe in something else and neither of us be wrong?

I don't hunt and I'd never think of picking up a gun to hunt but that's me. I'd never think of telling someone else they can't hunt.

Please PETA show some respect and understanding for the diversity that this country has. Just becasue you consider hunting a form of animal cruelty doesn't mean everyone believes it You have every write to express this but that right stops when you try to enforce that on someone who doesn't hold the same belief.

Lastly, I don't know where Poplar WI is but I'm guessing they're isn't gun play in the streets. Otherwise I'm sure I would have heard of it. So the whole hunting violence against animals manifesting to violence against humans is being proved in correct in Poplar WI.

Hunting is not cruel and dangerous to the well-being of anyone. Kids who are taught at a young age about the proper handling of firearms and kids who go hunting with dad or mom are more likely to stay out of trouble than kids who sit home on the couch playing video games all night. I guess since PETA members get their meat from the grocery store, they are automatically superior to those of us who choose to fill our freezers with meat from animals we killed (humanely) and cleaned ourselves.

Ken Bartelt is a good man and I'm glad there is still a little common sense in this country. Peta should go bother MTV and the rap music industry. They are the ones pushing violence.
People always have, and will continue to hunt. So like the GREAT man says,"GET OVER IT"!!

What a bunch of garbage. It's not okay to hunt and prevent over population but it's just fine to let animals suffer the disease and starvation that follows. What hypocrites.

The US of A has become akin to Star Trek's Borg. You WILL be assimilated. These self-righteous groups with plenty of government money to throw around (In PETA's case, we won't even mention the millions granted from the big Hollywood stars, etc) to advance their own agenda's.

I just rented Demolition Man last week, and I actually got a little scared at the vision of the future that it offers. "That has been deemed not good, anything not good is bad and therefore illegal."

We're going to become a bunch of mindless robots that does the will of whatever majority wins out with money and muscle. Our freedoms will be stripped one by one.

You can see where our society is heading. 10 years ago, do you think PETA would have even DREAMED of confronting a school like this over this type of issue?

I commend the Poplar School Board for hiring Mr. Bartelt. He is obviously in touch with his Students, Community, and Board.
The Pioneer Press needs to run an instant poll on the article. The number of people who agree with Mr. Bartels position would clearly illustrate the insignificant minority that PETA represents.
Keep up the good work Poplar, Wisconsin.

PETA needs to get a life. Seriously. This is the most misguided group of people in the whole country. They contribute nothing, all they do is attack and coerce others to fit their narrow agenda.

PETA is like the Fred Phelps crowd, just opposite sides of the same coin.

I think we should go one step further and provide a link from the PETA website so they can see just how unpopular their position is

Seems we're all on the same page. If you want a "laugh because it's scary" moment about PETA, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch...
(I like Penn and Teller).

Besides, PETA, we wouldn't eat animals if they weren't made out of such tasty meat!

That would take common sense and logic. Something PETA knows nothing of.

Lots of good comments here. PETA is a pox on our society, and its nice to see those rare instances where someone is willing to stand up to them.

There is something sad about our post 1960s culture where too many people are allowed to stick their nose in other people's business and tell them how to run their lives. PETA is simply one of the more asinine examples of such a group.
