How hard would it have been for police to check the man's record to find out if he was a convicted felon? Police are getting out of control.

Good thing they won't pick me for the jury. Based on the article, he'd get everything he asked for. Something's got to stop the Gestapo from doing this. It would have taken any one of those morons 2 minutes to check their facts before proceeding.

Cops have been more and more out of control. This is almost a daily event with cops. Something in the paper or on the news all the time.

Stupid cops who don't have the capacity to understand what the police are not allowed to do nor people's civil rights. I'm sure they are too ignorant and smug to get it, even afterward. Has the history of the world's police states and polics abuses been lost on these hillbilly's?

It would be nice if the press here would have done their own checks to see if this guy was a convicted felon or not, it doesn't really say.

Police aren't just now getting out of control. It has been going on throughout history and it used to be much, much worse. With everybody now having access to the media, be it blogs, email, etc, much of the corruption is now published for all to see. It doesn't mean that it still doesn't happen, as this case might be an example, but it is much tougher to get away with anything.

How can the police expect public support when they act this way? Very few people I know would help the police with anything. It always gets worse when the police are involved.

Yes, how hard would it be for the press to check the public record and find out if this guy were telling the truth? It seems like today's press go for the spectacular rather than the factual.

Its a pretty cut and dry case, either he is or he isn't. If he isn't then the officers, their boss, and anyone else involved should be filed on by the DA. End of subject. If the guy is a felon then his case is thrown out....My guess is that the local yokals don't want this one getting out!

It seems unlikely that he is a felon and would still be filing a lawsuit. To be sure they will be digging for any dirt they can find on him just to discredit him. The city is going to get hit with this one and guess who ultimately pays?? We do. We have no say in these kinds of flagrant abuses of power but we are the ones who have to foot the bill. The cops being fired would not be enough punishment for this. A felon has a hard time getting a future job..so should a fired officer not just as an officer but in any field involving interaction with the public.

From what I understand, you're no longer a felon if you've done your time. You can actually have that "title" removed from your record after the time has been served.

That's not accurate. Once you have been convicted of a felony you are a felon for life unless you can convince the court to expunge your record. That is nearly impossible with felony convictions. It usually only happens to misdemeaner convictions unless you are a politician....lol.

Hmmmmm...okay-I guess I thought it was easy to have it expunged from your records but I truly don't know. I'll trust you on this one!

That's a good point but a very complicated situation. If you are on probation following your release from prison you are still under the control of the judicial system. A warrant is still usually needed to enter your home but probable cause enters into the picture. If you have been convicted of a felony you can never own a firearm.
