The wildlife refuge is unique among Florida's coastlines. This is partly due to the space program that this area has managed to stay protected from developers. It is home to one of the only beaches left that hosts NO development - a rarity in Florida today. Everyone here is concerned about the upcoming changes in usage for the property. Commercialism brings forth development. This area is a major stop on the migratory birds trail, not to mention a refuge for many other forms of wildlife including fish - not just toads and owls. Encroachment by definition, is not immediate. So your theory, however sarcastic as it may be, is inaccurate. The Everglades is a perfect example of what devestation can occur overtime by development. By the way, we natives would prefer if people of your opinion stayed out of our state. Thanks.
