I believe that we should cater to the hispanics. Americans shouldn't get so frustrated when they speak only Spanish. That's a good thing. If they learn English fluently they go to school and take seats from the Americans, along with jobs. So the next time your out in public and hear Spanish. Just remeber there the one's who clean our shite and build our roofs. So be greatful most of them don't want to learn English.

This is such crap....every parent whose kid is going to college for the first time has to learn the stuff. I did, it takes work thats all. Sounds like just another excuse to me.

Why bother with an education?

Firemen start at $45,000 plus great health benefits, and a huge, I mean huge pension benefit.
Work for 25 years end up making over $100,000 per year and retire at age 45 with a $7,000 plus pension (worth over $5 milion dollars). All you have to work is 8 days a month.

Only stupid people go to college!!!

Wow! The morons got a lot of sleep this weekend as they are starting early. Just one look at the posts above proves that. Thank God my "BILINGUAL" peers will be replacing all of you in a few short years. May be our country will survive?

It will never cease to amaze me how the Sun Sentinel and other MSM twist information around to make it appear as though minorities are once again the victim. Read this quote:

"Community leaders say first-generation, college-bound students like Gonzalez lack the benefit of parents with the experience to shepherd them through a competitive application process. Having parents who aren't familiar with admissions requirements, students struggle on their own to sort through complex financial aid and scholarship options."

Nonsense. As the Sentinel constantly reminds us, we are a nation of immigrants. For generations, someone has been, and will continue to be, the first of the family to attend college. I was such a person in 1959. I did not consider this to a be a disadvantage, but rather, a privilege. I was not deterred for one second, nor did I "struggle" because my parents were "not familiar with admission requirements".

Please, let it rest, will you?

If these kids are so smart, why do they go to Florida colleges? One of the worst college systems in the country. They're going to have to work here too since any other state is going to be very wary of hiring them...

"I didn't have parents who could say,'OK, this is what you do,'" Alejandro Rengifo said. "If they don't get in touch with peer groups or other institutional agents, the odds are stacked against them," Hurtado said.

Can't these stupid kids read or have any logical thought? I'm as white as can be, born and bred in the USA and I figured out how to get scholarships and grants on my own (and the internet was verrrry young at that time). Are these immigrant children seriously that stupid that they can't even think how to do the simplest of things? Just send them to work fast food, although that seems to be too challenging to too many of these kids these days....

Being bilingual is an asset. However, it is not an indicator nor guarantee of success for anything. So I'm not sure what your point is.

Hence the problem. Being bilingual is a tool for success in an international market place that a portion of our society is against. Education is growth. Remember that there is still a portion of Americans that still feel that computers and the Internet are a fad that will end? I do not understand their point of view!

However, given your sarcasm about "my bilingual friends will be replacing the rest of you" I have the distinct impression you are not talking about, oh let's say, a bilingual person who speaks English and Chinese. I have the distinct impression you are speaking about ethnicity more than linguistics.

I am only speaking about language. Thank you but I know what I typed. Bilingual could mean Chinese and Arabic. It should mean German and French. Google the term for a more definitive definition. We are the only country that does not try to have all of our school aged members of society learn more than one language.

Right. And I have no clue about the ethnic and linguistic issues in south Florida. Are you still clapping on one hand because I was the first to attend (and graduate) from college in my family, without special consideration and help? I certainly wasn't the only one. Back then, we all did it that way.

I am answering for Random.

Okay that deserves a foot added. What you have done although quite admirable does not change the topic at hand or the questions answered.
