Shame, Shame! San Jose Mayor Comes Out In Opposition To Gay Marriage

San Jose has a sizeable gay population and many in the community had been waiting to hear where Mayor Chuck Reed stood on Proposition 8, the November ballot measure that would ban gay marriage in California by defining marriage as only between a man and a woman. In an interview with CBS 5 on Friday, the mayor broke his silence. "I don't support changing the definition of marriage," Reed said, "but whether this is the appropriate ballot measure, we'll have to wait until it goes on." more

He is just another idiot that thinks he is above the law. Since when did "rights" have to be on a ballot? And since when can you vote on what a word means? I think he should be recalled for not supporting his people.

Wow, well, we did get married this past Monday and San Mateo County was once choice for us. We decided on seeing Hisoric Muir Woods and beautiful, prestine Sauslito in Marin County.

I am so happy that we did not go to San Mateo County and the county recorder and everyone is San Rafael in Marin County were nice, friendly, and extremely open minded.

Very true. I am glad that San Mateo County never received our money for the four days that we were there. Marin and San Francisco Counties received the invaluable "out of state" tax dollars from us.

Congratulations to you and your partner!

Reed's unfortunate comments are important for us to hear. We have come a long way, but we still have a long way to go.

Prejudice and hate are applied forcibly and without compassion, understanding or enlightenment. Evolution from these ideas ultimately requires exactly the opposite approach. The most egregious of offenders must be dealt with sternly and swiftly, but to win the hearts and minds of the majority we have to continue to exercise the patience required to educate and enlighten. Its not fair, and its a lot of work, but it is by far the most effective means of moving past 2000 years of institutionalized division and hatred. And it is the most compassionate. The cycle must be broken for the good of everyone.

Congratulations on your Civil Marriage. I hope that you and your spouse are just as happy as we are. One small correction, San Jose is in Santa Clara County.

Good for the mayor!

He stood up against sin. Gay marriage is WRONG.

Some people will probably rate my comment as 'nuts,' but that's alright. I'll always know that gay marriage is wrong, and I'll always stand for my God, no matter what everyone else says.

It's good to stand up and voice support for truth. Don't stop there though - pray that God would open the eyes of the unbelievers so that they may see the hope and light of the gospel.

Most of you talk about hate speech when someone disagrees with you. What are you a bunch of idiots? If someone disagrees with you it's not hate speech it's an opinion. So grow the f____ up and act like adults. No one gives a crap what you do but if they have an opinion then you don't have to listen. I don't agree with you and do not support gay marriage, so does that make it hate speech? Hell no it's an opinion. So stop acting like a bunch Queens and go on with your life. Have a nice day/life.

I'm not going to say you're nuts, but I will say that it is you that is wrong, not marriage equality.

If your personally chosen religious beliefs cause you to think that gay marriage is wrong, then don't marry somebody of the same gender, it's that simple.

Preventing other people from marrying who don't share your chosen beliefs is another story, that is wrong, Ashley. I will always stand for equal treatment under law for all people, regardless of their chosen religious beliefs.

Here's good news! God defines marriage as the souls of two people become knit as one and they make a covenant

Here is the account of same-sex marriage from the old testament (before Christianity):

1 Samuel 18:1>"the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul"

1 Samuel 18:3-4>"And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt."

1 Samuel 20:41>"After the boy had gone, David got up from the south side of the stone and bowed down before Jonathan three times, with his face to the ground. Then they kissed each other and wept together until David was erect."

2 Samuel 1:26>"I grieve for you, Jonathan my brother; you were very dear to me. Your love for me was wonderful, more wonderful than that of women."

Creative. But you are completely wrong. The devil also twisted scripture for his own purpose when tempting Jesus.

Jonathon and David loved each other like brothers. They were friends. As for the kissing, it was a popular custom - not always meant for romance, but for greeting.

Did you know that Jesus described the greatest love of all as being for friends, not romance? He said: "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his FRIENDS."

The Bible says homosexuality is wrong. Leviticus 18:22 says: "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."

It doesn't matter whether your chosen religion considers same-gender marriage a sin, we're talking about secular civil law. Civil law is supposed to treat people equally, and now in California, along with Massachusetts, it does.

Tom,
My "religion" teaches me that homosexuality is wrong for ALL people, not just me or people who believe like me. My faith teaches me to rebuke sin, not play the part of the mute observer.

Thanks for replying.

Well marriage is a civil event that should be blessed by the church if you so want, like in England.

The whole God thing, well I really feel for those who truely believe God does not love all his children he is the creator, He does not create mistakes. I did not choose being gay.

The Bible things is so old, the old testements was written fot the children of Isreal not us if that were the case we would not eat certain foods, work on sabbath, get tatoos, shave, all the other laws in the Bible. But some people like to pick and choose the laws they want to keep. Be consistant stop vasilating.

I being a gay male believe that homosexuality is natures form of birth control since hetros can't slow down, nature had to step in.

Your chosen religion is applicable only to those who freely choose to follow it, and you have absolute zero right to force your beliefs onto others through civil law.
Not only that, but the simple fact that you believe you have the right to rebuke others for their beliefs shows just how insanely arrogant you are.

Do you happen to eat seafood too? If so, you are sinning big time. Care for me to use the same brush on you, you hypocrit, religious bastard?

Doesn't feel very nice, does it? It hurts, doesn't it? Well, maybe, just maybe, that is how gay people feel when you spew your religious filth.

And in other countries, gays are stoned to death, beheaded, castrated, and put on fire. Does your "religion" also teach of this. Apparently, your bible does. Why not take up the arms you need to and start using them as your bible instructs? Not to so is intentionally defying God. What is wrong? Man's law may get in the way?
