i think that people are gross..i recently found out my sons father was a sex offender. i think they should be monitored for life! and ordered counsuling for life! this is not normal for adults to act in such a manner where our childerns safety is at risk! children are innocent helpless by standers...we have to do what we can to protect them for the wirdos in this world! if your kids dont have parents and a government to protect them..whom else should they turn? as parents we are their world and they ours! how could we not take steps to ensure that kids can live and play with out fear?

Perhaps a tatoo across the forehead so that all children can read clearly and be warned up front or on the hands again so children can read and be warned.

John Walsh of America's Most Wanted would be delighted to hear this good news. He even got George Bush to endorse the "Adam Walsh Act" which strengthens legislation to make it more of a capitol felony to kidnap and rape children, henseforth, stiffer sentences for the offemders.

I agree about the tattoo thing. It's like the Scarlet Letter, only it would not be for humiliation sake but as a warning to the innocent to stay away from this person. Another thought is to just castrate them. Doesn't that help reduce testosterone?

I hate molesters and personally think they should receive life sentences. with out the chance of Parole!

Though I agree with the law, I too believe O'Malley is playing politics. The Majority Of O'Malleylanders don't like sex-offenders so O'Malley of course is gonna push for tougher rules.

I heartily agree that sex offenders should be punished and that something be done to warn of their presence. But I also think that the punishment should fit the crime. Not all so-called sex offenders should receive the full wrath of society. What about a young 20 something guy who has consensual sex with a 15 yr old girl? Should that person be branded for life? The most severe consequences should be reserved for true sexual predators, not those who have a lapse of judgment.

Unfortunately, the words "sex-offenders" conjure up images of innocent children at the hands of a monster. This is not the case with all sex offenders. What about the 19 year old having consensual sex with the 15 year old? What about the idiot girl who send her boyfriend naked pictures of herself. I think a common sense approach should be used.

This hysteria cracks me up. Reckless drivers on the highways are a far far bigger threat to kids than child molesters but the idiot american doesn't care. "Hey dood - sorry i ran the stop light and hit your car and now you kid's in a wheelchair but like ... it was an accident".

BULLS*IT! A 15 year old does not have the legal right or understand the responsibility of having sex. That's why there are laws against it!(actually a womans female body parts are not matured until the age of 19 so no woman should have sex before then)
ANYONE who molests a child should be permanently removed from society, so no more of the perversion will follow to another generation. If you look at a child and have sexual thoughts you are already sick and should know it. It's your personal responsibility to stop it. If you don't...the law and decent citizens will! I say if the law doesn't protect our children then "Frontier justice" should be allowed! Get 'em! Tattoo their foreheads is a great idea but my vote is to put them away for good!

Your point about reckless drivers is a good one but is a different subject. The issue is about sexual predators. Lets stick to the subject.

Florida recently introduced a new policy.
Maryland should follow suite
Obviously this WILL NOT solve the issue but IMO will minimize the inhumane terrible crime.
If you have been convicted of such a crime and want to have access to the internet, sex offenders MUST bring in their computer to the local state/federal authorities to have a tracking device installed to keep a close eye on what internet sites are being viewed by the creap sex offender!

If caught on a computer that has not been registered with the authorities will result in immediate violation.

Ok The topic is sexual predators.... not driving predators. So my comment is Fight for the full Jessica's Law, and not these half punishment the goverment keeps passing. Also to have the full punishments with no parole, and for you worriers that are 20 and want to have sex with there 15 yr. old girl/boy friends there are excepetions in the Jessicas Law...(read up on it)!!!!

What about the people who go on the computer and some girl lies to them and says she is 18 or older, but as soon as her parents find out the innocent man is now a sex offender. I know you should check ID b4 you sleep with someone- but what guy ages 18-25 really thinks about that?

I know of a sex offender that is off probation, has an excellent paying job, and is working very hard to be a productive part of society. This person realizes the pain that was caused and is not a sexual predator.

The registry doesn't stop people who haven't offended. Also, the majority of offenses are within a family and are not from strangers. Increasing the pressure on registered offenders as a result of a high-profile kidnapping/abduction or child-abuse case does not always work.

Released offenders need to work and have a place to live. Having them out of work and transient actually creates more pressure on them and increases the risks of reoffending, while having them successfully employed and with a fixed address helps reduce the risk of reoffending.

Why the fear mongering? Why the extra-judicial punishment? If one is a proponent of such violent punishment, then it should be considered for other offenses as well. No double-standards.

Where is the "Convicted Murderer's" Registry? I'd like to know if I have a murderer on parole living in my neighborhood. There does seem to be a double standard on sex offenses.

Yes I have been hurt and after 46 years the pain is still there here is some things I wrote in a paper on this issue.
sex offenders should be put in an isolated place, be given the least amount of food and heat possible, and allowed no recreational activities; no T.V, no reading, no gym, etc. They should just be with people like themselves and counselors to talk to and to help them get better. We treat our criminals better than the poor in this country. They get all these amenities and conveniences including heath care at no cost. The government thinks that they should have all of those things in jail because of our constitutional rights. But don’t they give those up when they commit crimes?
When it comes to sex offenders and killers, they should suffer. They should all have to sleep on a hard, cold beds without mattresses, they should be given the minimum amount of heat needed to survive, and in the summer no AC. They should also only receive one meal a day comprised of bread and water. They should not be given anything for entertainment. They should only be allotted one shower every other day. Yes, it would smell but they should suffer in all aspect for destroying one’s family or life. Offenders proven 100% guilty should have their names and photos plastered everywhere so everyone, especially law enforcement agencies, would know who they are if they ever got out of jail, which I don’t believe should ever happen.

Their eyes should be taken out of their sockets and their tongues removed. Both arms and leg should also be removed. Their penises or vagina’s should be removed or sewn up. Then, they should be put in a place that has only a few people to care for them. Their quality of life needs to be as bad or worst then what they have put women and children though. Their victims have lived with fear and mental and physical pain that these criminals have put them though their entire lives
