Prosecute the driver to the fullest extent of the law! The "accident" didn't have to happen. The driver was stupid and inexperienced and now three people are dead. One of them was a friend of mine.

Driving laws are in effect to be obeyed and enforced. An irresponsible driver, who clearly was concerned only with joyriding, murdered three innocent people. Throw the book at the driver and certainly revoke his driving privileges (yes, they are PRIVILEGES) for as long as the law allows. The driver has proven he is a danger to society.

unless you have NEVER driven irresponsibly, ie. too fast for road conditions, speeding, talking on your cell while driving, driving when you are tired or driving after you have been drinking, be careful how you judge. Every one of these infractions required thought out intent. The only difference is you did not cause any injury to yourself or others. Let the punishment be tempered with forgiveness so everyone can heal.

The difference here is the degree of neglegence which was demonstrated by the teenage driver. With the exception of some of the examples you have cited (driving under the influence, excessive speeding) sure, everyone is guilty of commiting these infractions. I, however, can honestly say that I have NEVER (even as a teen) crammmed five of my friends into a vehicle, drove excessively fast on icy roads and killed three innocent people. Never.

Now, those three factors combined are FACT. Throw in all of the heresay - which will come out in court soon enough - such as they were high, the driver was showing off, they were skipping school -('cause they sure as heck were not in any area where they could pick up lunch as they claimed), and you've got a bona fide little criminal who deserves to have the book thrown at him.

Yes, the community needs to forgive this youngster in order to heal, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't get away with only probation and a slap on the wrist for the deaths he caused. In fact, that would only cause more bitterness in some circles. I believe the community needs to see justice. This wasn't your run of the mill accident, this was caused by GROSS Neglegence. He didn't just *oops* slip off the road because he was going a tad too fast, he was somewhere he probably wasn't supposed to be and KILLED three.

Probation is plenty for Ben. That's all the criminals in this county get for anything anyway.
The difference between all the drug dealers, sex offenders and theives(who kill and ruin lives intentionally over and over) in PIC and Ben is....Ben is minor who didnt mean to kill anyone. Another difference is.. He has remorse. He comes from a respected family and they will never get over this. You can't ask for justice on this accident when the Cheboygan and Presque Isle County courts don't take a hard line on anything else. Take his license, give him probation and let him try to pick up the pieces of his soul.

I think he should be harshly punished, his carelessness took 3 lives and destroyed many others. I say give him at least 5 years, so he knows he served his time and he has time to think about what he did, while he is in lock up, he can take his collage classes and get some Counseling. he cant just walk away with a slap on the wrist. think about if this boys carelessness took a member of your family? would you want him to walk away with him just having his DL taken away?NOT ME..Im not taking any sides, I dont know the boy or the people he killed. all I know is what I read on here and see in the news.

at the beginning of these post, I saw someone ask "What if they were your children?" so I thought about it and yeah it would be devastating to see one of my children go to prison. but what would be more devastating is if one of my children were killed, so okay my son may have to go to prison for a few years, I can call him, he can call me, we can write each other,and best of all I can visit him, and wrap my arms around him and give him a hug and tell him I love him, at least he is alive. I have to say though, I hope by the time my child reaches the age to be able to drive, I hope I will have taught him not to drive irresponsible, also when my son goes to school he will stay there until the end of the day, if he wants lunch I will pack him one. no parent wants to see their children in so much trouble. I know I wouldnt, BUT I could never go to the courts and BEG the judge for pardon on my child. knowing there is going to be people in that court room that can never see their family again...he will not get life in prison at the most he will probably only get 5 years.
